NEUADD GOFFA CRICCIETH MEMORIAL HALL

RCN 1213288, Criccieth

Sustaining the day to day running of the War Memorial Hall at Criccieth and working to ensure its future as the cultural heart of the community.

NEUADD GOFFA CRICCIETH MEMORIAL HALL

Who we are and what we do

Founded in 1922 at the suggestion of David Lloyd George, we have been the beating heart at the centre of Criccieth for 100 years. Our large 370-seat auditorium and 50-seat Green Room are available to hire for all sorts of events, including parties, weddings, theatre, concerts, meetings and lectures.

We have a regular programme of events, including opera, concerts, dances and plays. We also host Criccieth Festival and performances by the amateur Criccieth Starlight Players.

Centre of the community

Most events at the Hall are put on by non-profit groups from the local area, or are private hires by local people for parties and wedding receptions. Users include a community choir, pilates class, youth club, folk club and Llanystumdwy football club. We have hosted warm spaces and programmes to reduce loneliness.

The building also contains Criccieth's magnificent War Memorial, and we host the annual Remembrance Sunday Service.

Why we are fundraising

Donations to the Hall will be used to maintain and upgrade our buildings and facilities.

The charity is run on behalf of the Community by a small group of dedicated volunteer trustees, and a small team of freelance cleaners. The building is old, large and grade 2 listed, so requires constant maintenance.

Unexpected events, such as dry rot or failed stage lighting equipment, and the increased costs of utilities such as electricity and gas have made it increasingly difficult to be able to provide our services at a price the whole community can readily afford. The arts in Wales are in decline, with many venues under threat of closure.

We receive no subsidy, and are entirely reliant on the money we can generate through hire fees and the generosity of our donors and friends of the Hall. We have also been successful at obtaining grants to upgrade our facilities, including a regular grant from Criccieth Town Council, and for events such as the warm space.

Your donation will help secure the future of the Hall for the benefit of the community.
