Aim

In September 2022 we’ll start building an indoor skatepark in Newport city centre. Proving a safe, inclusive all year round hub.

This crowdfunding campaign is to raise further funds towards an indoor skatepark in Newport.

In March 2022 the community raised £3,502.00. Since then, we’ve raised a further £400.00 with T-shirt Sales. Secured almost £10,000 with lottery community funding and £1,000 through Tiny Rebels birthday bucks. Total = £14,902

Estimated ramp build is £25,000 alone. But we’d also need money towards

  • Safety equipment.
  • Furnishing
  • Staff training for the project. Including DBS checks, first aid, safe guarding
  • Skateboard GB qualified coaching.
  • Venue costs and insurance which is over £1,5000 a month

A community led indoor skate project in Newport will

  • Create a fun, safe recreational space to enjoy all year round, increasing sporting participation, positivity, wellbeing in a supportive communal hub, where people can form lasting friendships.
  • Provide a fun learning environment led by skilled instructors, offering focused-based services.
  • Give existing users a space in the heart of the city, with access to a wealth of amenities on their doorstep, and great public transport links.
  • Offer local youth and community groups focused led workshops at the skatepark.
  • Open up opportunities for voluntary youth work.
  • Promoting social inclusion, diversity, and equality for users. Allowing people to express themselves in a supportive environment.
  • Contribute back into the local skatepark community, by creating a sustainable, affordable model, which will reinvests back into the project and users needs, instead of making a profit.
  • Provide tailored sessions to suit individual needs i.e girls only nights. Youths only. Adults only. Skateboard only. Scooter only. ASD sessions, Adaptive skateboarding lesson, acceisble sessions,  and more.
  •  Create full time and part time positions for the skate project in Newport. As well as paid labour for the skatepark builders.

The crowdfunding campaign is the next step in pushing this project forward. The drive and support is growing rapidly from the Newport skatepark community, but now we need to raise further funds to establish a solid base, sustainable community foundations for a project to grow.

Covid restrictions have affected everyone’s lives. A constructive community project like this will have dramatic impact on the lives of everyone that comes through our doors. Estimated 13,500 users each year.

Skatepark users are made up of unique individuals - but we’re one big community. This project will impact upon a large portion of the community.

Any donation helps. Thank you so much!

From September there will be at least one indoor venue is Newport that we can use. I have set up a small network of venue’s that would skate clubs to run also. And several youth and community groups will be able to facilitate skateboard workshops.
