Getting solar panels onto Newington Green Primary School in Islington. Reduce NGPS’ energy bills and free up funds for educational resource
Help Us Power NGPS with Solar Energy!
The Project:
Newington Green Primary School and Newington Green Action Group are partnering to install 200 solar panels on the school’s roof.
It will be the first school in Islington to be solar powered!
This ambitious initiative will cut energy costs, reduce the school’s carbon footprint, and ensure more funding goes directly to education- not electricity bills.
Why It Matters:
- £142,000 in savings over 5 years (contractor estimates), freeing up funds for classrooms, resources, and student support.
- A sustainable future: the panels will provide clean energy for years to come, teaching students about environmental stewardship.
- Community-powered: every donation brings us closer to our goal and shows our collective commitment to local schools.
By installing solar panels NGPS will reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and cut carbon emissions, directly contributing to climate change mitigation. The project will also serve as a powerful educational tool, helping students learn about renewable energy and sustainability through real-world application, fostering environmental awareness in future generations.
As a central hub in the community, Newington Green Primary can inspire local families and organisations to take similar climate-positive actions. Additionally, energy cost savings can be reinvested into further sustainability projects and vital school resources. Educationally, the solar panels will become a practical learning tool, helping pupils understand energy, climate change, and sustainability through real-life examples, boosting environmental awareness and STEM engagement.
