Newcastle Lanterns 2025

Aim
To support Newcastle Lanterns to continue running as a free community event.
This year Castle Creatives and B. Arts are working together to make Newcastle Lanterns happen, but we need your help too.
What is Newcastle Lanterns?
Newcastle Lantern Parade happens just after dusk on a winter's evening (Saturday 6 December), people come together to parade with their handmade willow and tissue lanterns around the streets of Newcastle Town Centre accompanied by live music.
Open public workshops in the weeks leading up to the event are well attended and much loved by the local community. Families, friends and individuals come together to create their own works of art and have the opportunity to showcase them in the parade. Local and national artists are commissioned to make larger lanterns that fit with the year's theme and lead the parade.

Why is it important?
Newcastle Lanterns first started in 2013 and has been an important part of the town's recent history, it has brought people together, highlighted the town's beauty and created a community of makers and doers through the Newcastle Lanterns Supporters Club and now Castle Creatives.
Newcastle Lanterns is a place where partnerships develop, people create and communities thrive and without all of that it simply cannot happen.
Unfortunately this year we haven't been able to secure all the funding we need to run the event and so we are asking any attendees or supporters who can afford to do so, to donate a small amount to help with the running costs.

How your support will help us
Your help would mean supporting local artists to work with communities in Newcastle-Under-Lyme to create Lanterns for the Lantern Parade on Saturday 6 December.
Your contribution would go towards materials, staffing and volunteers expenses without which we cannot run the event.
Your support will mean we can make a community event to remember and we can continue to do this in year's to come.
Your support will show our funders that we have the backing of the local community and businesses. If we struggle for to find our match funding this year, it could mean future year's events are jeopardised.
Who are Castle Creatives?
Castle Creatives are a newly formed group of Newcastle residents and artists, all the members have previously worked and volunteered on Lantern events that have occurred in the town on and off over the past 15 years.
We formed to help make the much valued lantern events a more sustainable part of the town's cultural activity, including building up a strong group of partner organisations and community volunteers to help take the event forward and ensuring the less heard communities of the town are at its heart.
Who is B. ARTS?
B. ARTS is a combined and participatory arts organisation, we aim to produce high quality arts experiences with people from many different backgrounds who would not normally engage with the arts.
