Aim
Shepton Mallet Hockey Club, a 250+ member and volunteer-run club, is fundraising for desperately needed new changing room facilities.
Who are we?
Shepton Mallet Hockey Club is a thriving, growing local sports club with 250 plus members. Run by volunteers, the Club plays a huge part in the sporting and social lives of its players with 3 separate training sessions and up to 5 league matches plus junior fixtures each Saturday during the season.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Until recently, Shepton Mallet Hockey Club has been fortunate enough to use the changing, shower and toilet facilities at Shepton Mallet Leisure Centre, next to the hockey pitch. However, with the permanent closure of Shepton Mallet Leisure Centre in 2023, we no longer have access to appropriate changing rooms, toilets and showers for fixtures and training sessions. We are in desperate need of new facilities if the Club is to continue to thrive.
How we’ll spend the money raised
We are fundraising to purchase and install 3 non-permanent units (portakabins) to be placed next to the pitch and provide much needed changing, shower, toilet and club office (plus rain shelter!) facilities for the Club.
The purchase and installation will cost the Club over £48,000 and we need your help to fundraise please! Sport England's Movement Fund will grant us £15,000 towards these costs if we can raise at least £15,000 on Crowdfunder.
Community impact
These new changing and club facilities will make a big difference to current and future Shepton Mallet Hockey Club players, their families and supporters and opposition players when they visit.
Providing basic changing, shower and toilet facilities for players, their families and visiting teams is essential for community participation in any sport. We would also like to provide a small communal Club space / office, bringing a sense of community and a hub for our players, their families and supporters. Currently, the Club has no ‘presence’ at the pitch. SMHC portakabins with signage and branding will bring wider benefits such as increasing the Club’s visibility and helping us to encourage more people to get active, start or take up hockey again and become part of a local, sporting community!
