New Projector for Much Loved Community Cinema

Aim

Our Community Cinema requires a new Projector: Help us to continue bringing the Magic of Cinema to our local community in South Wales.

HISTORY & BACKGROUND:

We are a small Community Charity called Cross Hands Hall, Cinema and Community Centre (Registered Charity Number 524018) . We began life funded by the Miners institute, whereby the miners contributed a small sum from their weekly wage to create a community facility for all to enjoy. The original building  was built in 1904 and was further refurbished in 1932. The building was gifted to the community for recreational enjoyment and for the furtherment of charitable works to support the community. It has been hard going in recent years but we are striving forwards, we have a committed volunteer group who bring a multitude of individual skills to the team. We have been developing the repertoire of films, live performances, and events we offer and our volunteers are full of enthusiam, commitment and energy to support the development of our future plans.

We are not only 'surviving' now but we are starting to 'thrive'. Our vounteers, fundraisers and employees are dedicated to providing opportunities for the local community to come together, to mitigate against loneliness and isolation and to support our deprived community.

We are in the process of developing new projects to fully utilise our venue and broaden our community out reach. There is a lot of love for us and this beautiful venue, it is steeped in community history along with personal stories and sentiment of years gone by.

WE DESPERATELY NEED A NEW PROJECTOR

Despite our recent hard won successes we are desperately in need of a NEW PROJECTOR. Our old projector is becoming harder to maintain and spare parts are difficult to obtain. We need updated digital technology which will be more energy efficient and meet the standards and requirements of the contemporary film industry and our audiences!!

Without this Crowfunding page we would stand very little chance of raising the funds required to purchase this new Projector.  As you can imagine Technology is rapidly changing and the possible costs are rapidly increasing. A lot depends on the amount of money we are able to raise as to what model projector we are finally able to afford. Our current projector is well maintained and carefully 'nurtured' however we are aware it is at the end of it's expected lifetime. It is now critical for us to raise these funds to buy a new one so our future community can enjoy the magic of the cinema as much as we do!

£20 Donation - Name on Supporter Page on Website highlighting those who donated to our cause (up to 2000)

£50 Donation - 4 free cinema tickets to be redeemed by a group of four for one film or by an individual over 4 different films.

£150 Donation - Name on a physical wall plaque listing contributors

£500 Silver Ticket - Unlimited movies for 1 year for 1 person.

£5000 Gold Ticket - Unlimited movies for life for 2 people.

£500 Private showing of a film which we already have scheduled for public performances. (up to 250 guests). The shop can be open by arrangement and a license can be negotiated if applicable for the event.

£750 Private showing of a film of your choice (up to 250 guests), dependent on availability of the film and agreement from our management team. Conditions apply as to the genre of the film chosen. The shop can be open by arrangement and a license can be negotiated if applicable for the event.

£3000 Main Screen advertising for 4 weeks

£5000 Main Screen advertising for 8 weeks

We would love to collaborate with any organisations that would like to support us through this fundraising or in other ways that would enable us to continue providing for our local community for years to come.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT & SCREENINGS

The cinema brings the community, young and old, together.

We have a regular following of local people who attend the cinema on a weekly basis. 

We show the latest releases ( about 4 weeks after their release in mainstream cinemas), we open our doorsr consistently on a Friday, Monday and Tuesday. Depending on the film we also offer Matinee performances on Saturdays and other days a week. 

We have a busy time table of events on other days which includes live performances and fundraising events to help support the ongoing upkeep of our beautiful building.

We also have a monthly Silver Screening where members of our community attend for tea, a slice of cake and to chat about a classic film which we show on that morning. This event is enormously popular and may be one of the only times some of these attendees enjoy social contact outside their homes. 

We also show Free Community Films, where we open the doors for free to local families and their children. We aim to do this at least 3 times in a year, for some children this is the only time they might get to visit the cinema and experience the big screen.

This building, the cinema and the community centre, have been at the heart of the community for over 100 years. 

Help us to continue to offer these events and far more by supporting our fundraiser for our new projector. We have lot of ideas around how this new technology might enhance what we are able to offer and are excited for what the future may bring!
