Please support Sherborne CC to raise £13,500 for new nets to continue providing fun and welcoming cricket opportunities for our community.
Sherborne Cricket Club has been an essential provider of sports in our community since 1837. Today, we support everyone in our community with a wide variety of teams including two senior men’s teams, a women’s team and three junior teams. We also hold regular training sessions for All-Stars (5 to 8-year-olds) and Dynamos (8 to 11-year-olds) encouraging the next generation of cricketers.

To deliver better, safer and more diverse cricket coaching for young people, local schools, and our members we plan to increase the off-field coaching and practice facilities. This is an important project for us as we want to use it as a catalyst to bring more people into the game and help sustain the future of the club. To make this a reality we need to raise £13,500.

We are determined to improve our practice facilities for all age groups and adult teams with the provision of a two-lane fully enclosed practice net facility that will provide excellent opportunities for all players to improve for many years to come. These will replace our existing nets which were installed over 30 years ago and are sadly no longer fit for purpose as you can see in this picture.

It is our vision to grow and build upon our family-friendly cricket club environment by delivering coaching sessions for groups of all ages and abilities.

For many of us at the club, being a part of the cricket club community has been a huge part of our lives from childhood. With no facilities at the Terrace Playing Fields, children in Sherborne have increasingly limited options to get involved in cricket in their local community, and sadly it is a familiar story in many of the surrounding villages.

These facilities and the coaching that we will be able to deliver when the new nets are in place will allow every child to take part in cricket, filling the gap that is currently in our local area. As the Terrace playing field is council-owned land we intend for these facilities to be available for use by the local community as well as club-arranged sessions.

Like many local cricket clubs, we were hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our usual streams of revenue completely dried up in 2020 and were heavily reduced in 2021. Our normal fundraising activities were also put on hold which has affected our ability to fund projects such as the new nets without support. As a large part of the local community, we were able to offer the clubhouse as a government-funded Covid-19 testing centre during 2021 whilst it was unable to be used as a venue for sports.
The biggest impact the pandemic had was preventing people of all ages from playing cricket and getting involved with their local clubs. With your help, we can begin to rebuild community cricket in Sherborne and the surrounding areas. If today’s children don’t have access to cricket facilities and coaching, there won’t be a cricket club in the future.
