Sport England: Active Together has provided £6,000 of match funding
We are aiming to raise £20,000 to help fund fantastic new nets at Morpeth Cricket club, as our nets are not fit for purpose.
Morpeth Cricket Club is a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC), first established in the 1860’s, that continues to provide an important hub for the community of Morpeth and it’s surrounding rural areas and ex-mining communities. We take pride in the club’s programmes to introduce new players to the sport but to do so we need a new outdoor training area ‘nets’. Your support for this project will help us recover from the restrictions of 2020 which prevented us completing our fund-raising to replace the nets.
We provide many cricketing opportunities for young people, women and adults. As well as our strong membership of over 130, we provide use for the local community; Local Schools, Northumberland Cricket Board, Coaching Camps, to name a few.

A normal week in the season looks like this;
Monday - U15's Matches

Tuesday - Senior & U15 training & All Stars Cricket

Wednesday - Midweek Cup fixture or friendly

Thursday - Women & Girls Training & Midweek team matches

Friday - Junior training U6 - U13

Saturday - 1XI& 2XI league fixtures + social / fundraising events!

Sunday - Junior + Women & Girls Matches / Festivals + Sunday Friendlies.

Very busy... And we are proud of it!
With all this brilliant use at Morpeth CC, our nets are passed their lifespan, being over a decade old. They need replaced for the safety, good practice and inclusion of everyone.

We need your help to donate what you can as we aim to get a fantastic brand new three lane net facility similar to below, which will last for many many years. Our big target as a club is to have a Women & Girls hardball team, the new nets will aid this hugely and means we can train our Ladies safely.

In 2020 we were able to offer a limited season, following ECB guidance, and many children and adults felt that this offered them a real life-line of exercise and social contact.
We would normally be doing lots of fundraising & with our lack of income from half of 2020 season being lost, due to covid social distancing restrictions, it has not been possible in these very difficult times. For example our Golf Day which raises upwards of £2,000 a year. If we can raise the target amount we will be able to have the new nets in place at the beginning of the season so that we can return to play successfully. As all cricket fans will realise, it is vital to have serviceable nets to develop batting and bowling skills.

Sadly our club chairman Rod Rogers passed away before Christmas. Rod was the absolute heartbeat of the club for many years. His dream for years & years was for new nets. We plan to fulfil his dream.
Nicky Asbury was the mum of 2 of our young players and was a cricket lover all her life who died in 2016. Her family are supporting the bid for new nets in recognition of the role cricket has had in keeping Isaac and Lucas going over the last 5 years and to provide a long term memorial of her vitality and love of life.
With plans underway from net providers, we will get this done for the 2021 season. So we need your help to raise £20,000 which will get us over the line for our much needed nets. We cant wait to get them fully booked out with what should enable a full return to a more normal summer! Please pledge what you can and take advantage of our rewards.
Take care and thanks for your much needed support!
