Lindum Cricket Club was founded in 1856 and is the oldest cricket club in the historic city of Lincoln. Our club is a thriving centre for cricket as well as providing an important social hub for people from a wide range of backgrounds. We have players from as young as four learning the skills that will introduce them to the wonderful sport of cricket and develop a lifelong passion. Our Club offers many opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to enjoy playing the game.
Whilst we welcome the increased interest and passion for cricket that our club is experiencing, our training facilities are struggling to meet this demand. Our cricket nets have not been refurbished for many years, and are becoming more dangerous. They will soon not be fit for purpose with a tattered surface and torn nets, making it difficult to provide a totally safe area for people to develop their playing skills. It is vital that we are able to renew our nets facilities increasing our lane numbers to allow for increased safe use by more people at the same time.
During the financial restrictions that hit the club during the COVID crisis we were unable to update our facilities to the standard required. Post - COVID we are experiencing unprecedented demand for cricket and want to ensure we can encourage a passion for cricket in as many people as possible.
- Add an extra lane so we have a 3 lane net
- Relay a new net surface
- Extend the playing area to 33 metres
- Allow us to Install pull-across gates so that more players can use the space at the same time
During the summer, we have over 100 young people regularly playing cricket via the All Stars and Dynamos programmes. We also have junior teams ranging from U’9s to U’15s, as well as over 40 young people accessing our week-long summer school.
The senior section of our club is also thriving, with six senior teams competing at the weekends. Over the last couple of years, this has included the development of a rapidly growing and improving Women & Girls set-up, with over 30 women and girls training and playing regularly. This is proving so successful that additional training sessions have had to be arranged both during the winter and the playing season to accommodate the increasing demand, interest and enjoyment.
Lindum’s facilities are also used for annual charity matches which raise money for local good causes, most recently our ‘Go Yellow Day’ for our club charity partners, St Barnabas Hospice. The club aims to provide opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to access cricket and enjoy the welcoming and inclusive environment that Lindum Cricket Club has strived hard to achieve.
Lindum Cricket Club sits between two areas that fall within the top 105 most deprived areas in the country. We want to encourage those who haven’t previously accessed cricket to come and join our club and gain from the benefits that this sport delivers. Being able to provide these individuals with quality facilities that are both safe and fit for purpose will enable us to engage with the local community with confidence in what we are offering.
Lindum Cricket Club wants to be a ‘good neighbour’ to the local communities that surround it; these improved facilities will help us to do that long into the future.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
