NEW Mats for the The Dojo - Newquay

Aim

Fund the replacement of Mats at the Dojo for all the clubs that train there. The mats are now coming up to 6 years old and need replacing.

Update 13th February- Mats are ordered and due for delivery in 2 weeks time, I will then endeavour to fit them about a week later for everyone to use at the Dojo… cannot thank all the supporters on this enough who helped bring it to fruition.

31st January Update - we AMAZING reached our target. What an incredible community we have supporting what we do in Newquay. I really cannot thank you enough. I will close down the campaign in 7 days and get the mats ordered asap. Have had lots of samples through and I think we are going for one supplier that had zero hesitation in sending us a full mat to test, the colour schemes is changing to a more muted black and grey I think …. If we receive any more donations or there is any money left over after ordering I will invest in equipment for the dojo space for all to enjoy and use.

UPDATE: we are getting so close now, just a bit more to go. We would like to thank every single one of you that has supported so far and I think the campaign is getting very close to completion for all the clubs that visit the Dojo and their families. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Who We Are

The Dojo - Newquay is a dedicated martial arts space serving Newquay and the surrounding community. We are home to a growing group of martial artists of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds — from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. Our dojo isn’t just a place to train; it’s a place to build confidence, discipline, respect, and community.

We run the dojo on an almost non-profit basis. Our goal has never been to maximise profit, but to keep martial arts accessible, safe, and welcoming for everyone who trains with us and visits the space.

Why We’re Crowdfunding

Our current training mats are reaching the end of their lifespan and need replacing to maintain a safe, high-quality training environment. Unfortunately, the cost of replacing them — nearly £1,200 — is something we simply can’t absorb on our own.

Due to the large space required for martial arts training, our rent in Newquay is very high. While this space allows us to train properly and safely, it also means we don’t have the turnover to cover large one-off costs like new mats without putting pressure on our members or increasing fees — something we want to avoid.

That’s why we’re asking for help.

How the Money Will Be Spent

Every pound raised will go directly towards:

• Purchasing new, high-quality martial arts mats
• Improving safety and comfort for all training sessions
• Ensuring the dojo remains fit for regular classes, seminars, and visiting practitioners

There are no hidden costs and no profit — this is purely about reinvesting back into the dojo.

Community Impact

New mats will benefit everyone who trains at Dojo Newquay — current members, future students, visiting martial artists, and the wider martial arts community. A safer, better-equipped dojo means:

• A more professional training environment
