New Lighting at Acorn to Tackle Huge Fuel Rises
We did it
On 14th March 2022 we successfully raised £4,708 ( + est. £751.50 Gift Aid ) with 33 supporters in 40 days

Our aim is to install new LED lighting to help reduce the huge fuel hikes and aid with more environmentally sustainable plans.

 New stretch target

As mentioned, our Centre is aging and requires substantial repairs and maintenance works totalling up to £250,000. £70,000 of these works will be met by Torbay Council but any funds raised above our £3000 target figure would be used for items such as new Fire Doors, Heating Controls, etc, from Council's survey findings.

The Acorn Centre has been supporting the local community of Torbay since 1962.

During these 60 years we have supported 1000's of people to access educational, social, sporting, wellbeing and leisure opportunities and now hope some of our amazing Centre supporters can assist us with replacing some of our old lighting to new LED's.

Our Centre has had numerous make-overs over the years, but Local Authority cutbacks in 2015 meant we lost £50,000 P.A core funding, of which we have worked harder than ever just to be here for our community as an invaluable resource but this has led to a huge increase in none essential maintenance and repair works.

The Sports Hall lighting is due to be replaced shortly but our funds are extremely limited and we are still recovering from the large periods of closure due to the Pandemic. We have also already seen a 50% increase in our energy bills, which are substantial already and this will increase further from April and beyond. These proposed lights will reduce our bills quite significantly so will further aid as part of our sustainability business plan.

The cost to replace these lights are just under £3,000 as we have agreed a 25% reduction in materials and Sanctuary Housing will be aiding with installation. If we are fortunate enough to exceed this target figure, then the subsequent funds would be used to undertake additional repair and maintenance works identified from survey findings.
