Aim

Ballycastle ABC Boxing club aims to support and empower young people to fulfil their sporting aspirations and flourish in boxing

We are a newly formed IABA register boxing club, in the  rural North Antrim Coast area.

We are crowd funding to provide access to boxing opportunities, mentoring, sport specialists. We aim to nurture new upcoming  talent and offer alternative  opportunities to all young people who may not have the economic opportunity to engage in this sport, recreationally or competitively. As fledgling club, this crowd funding will enable us to invest in equipment, club development as well as improve boxing provision in rural North Antrim

This project is targeted at young people of people from North Antrim Coast. We aim to use Ballycastle ABC and resources raised to support and maintain engagement in recreational and competitively. This programme and the opportunity's will support sporting/social engagements in a positive way, this will support the health and wellbeing of young sports men an women who have been impacted by Covid as well as the continued cost of living crisis.  . Covid has had a detrimental impact on individuals’ self-confidence, their weight health and in terms of mental health, self-care, and resilience.

The aim of the project is to targeted a young people who have been impacted directly by a combination of poor mental health and a deterioration in their physical health and wellbeing.

It is our intention that each young person will receive a programme of one-to-one fitness and wellbeing support from qualified fitness and boxing coaches.  As part of this support, we will incorporate several motivational guest speakers to meet the young people and talk about the importance of fitness in overall wellbeing, to share their journeys in their given sport especially how they overcame challenges and, to provide advice and guidance to the young people to set key goals and to see fitness and sport as an important feature in their lives in the longer term.  We intend to provide each young person with intensive one to one sessions with a designated local sports person. We aim to provide low cost subsidised and where possible free services  such as exhibition fights, access to professional speakers and opportunities to compete across Northern Ireland   The aim is for the young people to set individual goals, examine their challenges and barriers, identity ways in which they can take responsibility to improve their health and wellbeing and to make referrals into services such as counselling, where these may be required.

How we’ll spend the money raised

All money raised will re invested into services that directly support young participants this includes Ballycastle ABC sports Kits, specialist boxing coaches, competitive opportunities as well as connection and reducing social isolation. The funds will also be used for club development as well as the  sustainability of this sport in our area. More equipment means we can support the development and maintain coaching of new and current members. Equipment will included boxing bags, kits, skipping ropes as well as high visibility safety tops for winter training/running sessions . This will also support travel to meet with and train with other clubs, inter club competing and supporting the wider community of boxing. This investment in facilities, as well as sports recovery and wellbeing  for local boxing  will  improve performance as well as empower other sports via our strength and conditioning work.

Community impact

ABC Ballycastle will provide a safe and nurturing environment and as a by product of sport will improve social connection, improve health and fitness as well as reducing individuals being at risk of falling into anti-social behaviour and who have limited access to  services and act as an alternative to other traditionally  established sports. Services  will be open to males and females however we anticipate that most of the group will be young
