Raising funds for desperately needed new dive blocks for our swimmers

by Kingsbridge Kingfishers Swimming Club in Kingsbridge, , United Kingdom

Who are we?

Kingsbridge Kingfishers is a friendly competitive swimming club with approximately 100 swimmers, established in 1998. Our swimmers compete in a range of events including local friendly galas, Open Meets, Devon County, Regional and even National level meets.

The club motto is Swim Happy Swim Fast and we strive for a fun, happy hardworking club where swimmers can reach their full potential.

Why are we crowdfunding?

Our current dive blocks are over 25 years old and starting to break so desperately need updating!

There is a huge difference between our old blocks and new modern blocks and updating them will benefit everyone from our youngest swimmers learning the basics, to our older athletes aiming for personal bests, county, regional and national qualifying times.

This will enable swimmers at the club to learn to dive on the modern equipment they use at competitive galas, in turn helping them to compete effectively at all levels.

The latest dive blocks are designed with modern features that make a significant difference in the swimmers' performance

They have:

  • adjustable footrests for better stability
  • non-slip surfaces for safety
  • improved design for faster more efficient take- offs

The difference between our old blocks and the modern ones we are looking to purchase can be seen clearly in the images below

How we’ll spend the money raised

Each block costs over £3,000 and we need 5 blocks in total. We have worked hard to be able to purchase 2 blocks but we still need to purchase 3 more.

Our fundraising target is £10,190 in total, however..........

  • We have been offered an amazing opportunity in the form of a grant from Sport England!
  • This means that if we raise £5,095 Sport England Movement Fund will match this contribution and we would reach our total!

Successfully reaching our fundraising goal would enable us to buy a full set of new blocks for the club.

And if they last as long as our previous blocks they will benefit a huge number of swimmers for years to come!

Community impact

Kingfishers Swimming Club is a club made up of swimmers from the local area, with coaches and committee members who are also part of the local community.

Situated in a coastal area it is vital that young people are able to swim at a proficient standard and therefore the club plays an important role in the community.

Swimming is a fantastic form of exercise for both physical and mental health, however the impact of our club reaches much further into the community. Young people who have been part of the club often then go on to lead active lives and we have a number of our older swimmers who work as lifeguards at the pool or others who have gone on to work with the RNLI.

Swimming as part of a club has made a big impact on keeping them active and healthy and through participation in this club it has gone on to shape their lives and work in the future.

Lifelong friendships are also forged in the pool and the spirit of the club encourages this at every level.

How you can play your part

There are three simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.

1. Make a donation. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success! Any local businesses that get behind us will get a shout out!

2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.

3. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!

4. Rewards. The top fundraisers will receive some amazing rewards ranging from £80 Funkita voucher, Yeti Tumblers, Paddling Boarding voucher from Waterborn and more. Every child from the Club who raises £20 or over gets to attend our celebratory pool party!
