Update: Tuesday 13 March 2018, 9.31am You've done it! Thank you! With off-Crowdfunder donations we are well ahead of the £50,000 target. If you missed out, we will still happily receive donations at http://www.tnmoc.org/support/make-donation
Huge thanks from everyone involved with the Museum.
The National Museum of Computing needs £50,000 to keep the Bombe on the Bletchley Park Estate.
The Bombe is a working reconstruction of the Turing-Welchman machine that helped break enemy Enigma messages in the Second World War.
The reconstruction will be located near to the world-famous working rebuild of Colossus, the 1944 computer that sped up the breaking of Lorenz messages of the German High Command.
Together, the original machines changed the course of history. They are credited with shortening the war by up to two years and saved countless lives. They also paved the way for our digital world.
Sitting close together in Block H, hailed as one of England’s top 100 ‘irreplaceable places’, they will bring to life the incredible wartime code-breaking story and pay homage to the amazing achievements of the Bletchley Park code-breakers.
The Museum is funded solely by private donations, entrance fees and sales.
It needs your help to raise £50,000 to install the Bombe and prepare a display area worthy of such a historic machine.
The work required to re-house the Bombe and create a new gallery is considerable. It will involve removing a wall and false ceiling, installing new flooring, power and lighting, relocation of existing exhibits, constructing a new Bombe store and office, plus creating all the necessary interpretive and display materials to enable the public to see the working Bombe reconstruction.
The addition of the Bombe adds to the Museum’s internationally renowned collection of working computing machinery spanning eight decades.
Please help us ensure that future generations of students and visitors from across the world can marvel at, and be inspired by, the Turing-Welchman Bombe.
Please make a donation today to keep the Bombe on the Bletchley Park Estate.
We have had enquiries about other ways of donating.
There are alternative methods on the TNMOC website: www.tnmoc.org/support. If you use that route, please mark the donation 'Bombe'.
And for US taxpayers, there is a special American Fund for Charities donation form or they can use the AFC website where you will now find CodesandCiphers Heritage Trust in a drop-down menu.
The National Museum of Computing is the operating name of CodesandCiphers Heritage Trust, charity number 1109874.
