The bells of St Mary Magdalene in Richmond upon Thames go back 350 years.
They have been ringing in births, weddings, coronations, jubilees, emergencies and even war and peace in all that time.
But they are no longer fit for purpose. They’ve become difficult to ring and intimidating for beginners who we hope will be the bell ringers of tomorrow.
This isn’t just about preserving metal and wood – it’s about safeguarding a living tradition that connects us to centuries of Richmond’s heritage.
It’s time for a new modern set of bells to secure the future of this noble tradition in Richmond. And serious money is needed to make that happen. Every pound helps. It would be such a cool thing to raise the cash to keep alive the magical sound of church bells from St Mary’s and beyond.
