New Beginnings Community supports vulnerable families with practical help, play, wellbeing and essential items, giving every child the best
The Story of New Beginnings Community
New Beginnings Community began in March 2016 with a simple belief: no baby should go without the essentials they need, and no parent should feel alone during difficult times.
What started as a small volunteer-led project providing Baby Bundles to vulnerable families has grown into a trusted community organisation supporting hundreds of families across Sandwell each year. In 2021, New Beginnings Community became a registered charity, enabling us to expand our reach and support even more families facing hardship.
Over the past ten years, we have provided more than 2,100 Baby Bundles to families experiencing poverty, domestic abuse, homelessness, refugee and asylum-seeking experiences, mental health challenges, and other forms of crisis. Each Baby Bundle contains essential items such as a Moses basket with a brand-new mattress, clothing, toiletries and nappies, helping babies get the best possible start in life.
As the charity grew, so did our understanding of the challenges families face. We recognised that alongside practical support, parents needed opportunities to connect, build friendships and access support in their local community. This led to the development of our Under 5s Play Programme, including Little Fish Baby & Toddler Group, Parent & Baby Wellbeing sessions and other family activities.
In May 2024, New Beginnings Community became a Sandwell Family Hub Spoke, strengthening our role within the local family support network and enabling us to connect families with a wider range of services and opportunities.
Today, New Beginnings Community supports around 100 families every week through practical support, early years activities, wellbeing programmes, family support and community connections. We work closely with midwives, health visitors, social workers, family hubs and other local partners to reach families who need support most.
Our work has been recognised through the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, often described as the equivalent of an MBE for voluntary groups, alongside several local community awards.
Everything we do is driven by a commitment to dignity, compassion and belonging. We believe every child deserves the best start in life and every family deserves support, hope and the opportunity to thrive. Through this project, we can continue making a lasting difference for families across Sandwell and beyond.
