RSPB Scotland - Nature of Scotland Awards Prize Draw
Win a once in a lifetime experience on the remote Isle of Coll! This prize includes two nights with dinner, bed and breakfast at the Coll Hotel from 5th – 7th June 2023, and special, behind the scenes tours of the RSPB Scotland Coll nature reserve.
Rich in wildlife, Coll is home to iconic species including hen harrier, cuckoo, and corncrake. Enter our prize draw for a chance to win this ‘money can’t buy’ island trip.
The programme will include:
Monday 5 June 2023
- Arrive at the luxurious, family-owned Coll hotel. With bedrooms looking across the bay to Mull, Staffa and the Treshnish isles, it is the ideal base from which to explore the breath-taking island of Coll.
- Meet some of the local RSPB team to learn about how we manage our farmland to benefit corncrake.
- Enjoy a delicious dinner at the hotel, where you may even spot otters frolicking on the shore whilst you dine!.
Tuesday 6 June 2023
Over the course of the day your RSPB Scotland guide will take you on a tour of the island for you to discover how we manage its special habitats, including peatland, machair and farmland.
- After enjoying a hearty breakfast at the Coll Hotel, you will head to the RSPB Scotland Coll office on the nature reserve to meet the RSPB team.
- Your itinerary for the day will include learning about hen harrier on the island and hopefully spot these magnificent ‘sky dancers’ for yourself, a delicious lunch on Friesland Beach, and an exclusive off-road ride over the machair to experience the remote far reaches of the nature reserve, hopefully spotting some iconic wildlife along the way.
- After dinner at the Coll Hotel, you will reunite with your RSPB Scotland guide for a dusk “Corncrake safari”, to hear the corncrake call and (if you are lucky) catch a glimpse of these elusive birds. If it is a clear night then you will also be treated to stunning views of the night sky, as the Milky Way blazes overhead.
Wednesday 7 June 2023
- Enjoy a delicious breakfast, made with fresh, local produce at the Coll Hotel before heading to the ferry terminal to travel home.
- Be sure to look out for harbour porpoises, dolphins and even basking sharks from the ferry!

The Nature of Scotland Awards recognise the very best in Scottish nature conservation. It's a celebration of the inspirational people, projects, groups, and organisations working hard to protect Scotland’s precious natural heritage. And it's your opportunity to support RSPB Scotland's work and experience Scotland's exceptional environment for yourself.
The evidence is clear, half of UK species are in decline and over one in ten are threatened with extinction. Some of the recent extreme weather events around the world, including heatwaves, wildfires and flooding, remind us that climate change is not a future problem, but is already unfolding around us. We are in a nature and climate emergency, and we need urgent action to restore our natural world by protecting wild spaces and halting wildlife decline.
Scotland, a country world-famous for its wildlife and landscapes, was recently found to be one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world. Whilst much of this loss of nature is historical, we are still losing nature now: since 1970 half of our species have declined, with one in nine at risk of national extinction.
We need to act now, or it may soon be too late to save some of our precious creatures and habitats. Will you help RSPB Scotland to protect our wonderful environment?
- The prize draw is open to all UK residents [aged 18 years or over], except employees of the community fundraising team of RSPB Scotland, their families, agents or any third party directly associated with administration of the prize draw. Proof of age may be requested. If you want to support the campaign and are not a resident of United Kingdom you can simply donate to RSPB Scotland here.
- Each £5 donation will act as one entry into the prize draw. You can purchase ticket bundles for a greater chance to win the prize as many times as you’d like. Each ticket equals one chance to win but there is only one prize to win.
- The prize does not include any transport to and from accommodation. The winner will be expected to reach Coll by its own means. Transportation during the activities will be provided by RSPB Scotland.
- The date of the prize stay is set from 5 June to 7 June 2023 and cannot be amended.
- The activities will take place on the isle of Coll, so we recommend that you wear comfortable footwear and appropriate clothing.
- RSPB Scotland does not guarantee the prize winner will see any of the species stated in the description above – nature is not always predictable.
