Aim

To plant 4 trees, one for each school house, and add coloured bulbs underneath to help turn an area of Nailsea School from grey to green.

Pupils at Nailsea School were surveyed about their ideas for improvements to a courtyard area that backs onto the school field. Their ideas included:

- planting trees

- adding flower beds

- creating covered seating areas

- adding colour using paint

- adding bird boxes etc

The aim is to make the courtyard an attractive area for both people and wildlife. Pupils will have more opportunities to connect with nature during their social times and observe how the trees and flowers change throughout the seasons.

Pupils and staff then voted for their favourite ‘house tree’ from a choice of 3 that had foliage, flowers or bark that represented their house colour. A suggestion was also made that bulbs were planted the base of the tree to add even more colour.

We will also be fundraising in the summer term through a non-uniform day and a bake sale. If we raise enough money for the 4 trees and bulbs we will plant them in the autumn term.
