Our project aims to help girls and women fully participate in sport by removing current and potential barriers.
Our club is St Brenda's Camogie Club in Ballymacnab, Co Armagh- a rural club based 5 miles outside Armagh City. We have 200+ members, aged from under 5 to over 65, and we strive to cater for everyone, be that from learning new skills, making new friends, playing sport competitively and non-competitively, as well as being a part of a social unit to keep connected to a community of people.

We are Crowdfunding to help level the playing field for girls & women in sport. We have 6 "mini-projects" which, combined will make a major positive impact.
Our project will bring ADDITIONALITY to our club in terms of:-
- additional skills and capacity of 14 existing coaches
- additional 10 coaches to add to our volunteer coaching team
- additional opportunities for our underage, teenage and adult players
- additional members will join our club through the enhanced connections to our community that our project will offer and through the improved reputation our club will gain from the project
- additional facilities and equipment which will help us greatly to support our female sports children / teenagers / adults. The equipment and storage facilities will demonstrate to our players the value that is placed on them, and the importance of "girl specific spaces" within our club.
Our 6 mini-projects which will run from mid July 2026 - end Sept 2026 are:-
(1) UPSKILL COACHES PROJECT: It will assist 14 current coaches to enhance their coaching skills and confidence, and to move up the grades of coaching qualifications. This will support our young members to develop their individual and team skills. Our Upskill Coaches Project will run over the week 21st-27th Sept.
(2) MAKE MUM OR DAD MY COACH PROJECT: Our project will support 10 new coaches to join our coaching team, by training mums and dads who have not previously coached, to become certified coaches. This will enhance the continued participation in sport, of young players, as we know that the involvement and encouragement of their parents is a major factor in them staying in sport. Our Make Mum or Dad my Coach project will run over the week 14th-20th Sept.
(3) GIRLS HAVING FUN WITH FRIENDS PROJECT: Our project will offer a healthy activity camp for our younger members aged 5 to 14 (target 90), through a range of activity sessions, these will enhance the enjoyment of our young players, and will be instrumental in them option to remain active members. Our Girls having Fun with Friends project will run over the week 27th July - 1st Aug.
(4) BETTER FACILITIES, BETTER FUN PROJECT: Our project will support us to purchase new training equipment, which will be particularly targeted for indoor activity, so that we can offer year-long participation for our young members (aged 5-12). Our Better Facilities, Better Fun Project will run over the week 20th July - 26th July.
(5) GIRLS SPACES FOR GIRLS PROJECT: Our project will help us purchase a girl-specific storage unit, so that team equipment across all our age-groups are stored safely in a girl-specific space. Our current storage facility is a shared space with the boy's/men's club and is not kept in the organised / team-specific way that our committee would like. Our female coaching members (and teenagers accessing training equipment) tell us they often feel "unwelcome" when accessing the current storage unit when it is also being used by the boys / men. A girl-specific space will greatly enhance our members' sense of worth/value/belonging. The football club have confirmed approval for us to use an available space to install a storage hut. Our Girls Spaces for Girls project will be completed by Fri 21st Aug.
(6) GIVE MY HEAD PEACE PROJECT: Our project will offer a range of positive thinking / positive mental health sessions for our teenage and senior age groups (target 25 players), where the range of life-pressures can impact their participation in sport (changing schools, exams stress, teenage issues, player injury..) Our Give My Head Peace project will be run over a series of workshops from 1st Aug to 18th Sept.
Together these 6 initiatives will help level the playing field for women and girls in our community, who are too-often at a disadvantage to their male peers, in terms of confidence, capacity and facilities to participate in sport.
