Aim
My Voice's aim is to provide urgently needed gender affirming voice care without extreme wait times or high costs, with a trans practitioner
My Voice is an idea created out of the realities the trans community faces. Many of us find that our voices are a sore point of dysphoria or inconvenience, and I want to change that. Accessing voice coaching or speech and language therapy (SLT) is hard; either you pay privately or wait to access it through a GIC, where you will be placed on another waiting list to start the process. Where I live, that would likely take 8+ years and that is too long for anyones mental, and at times physical, well-being and safety, or access to the correct gendered services to be impacted by inaccessible care.
With the aim of keeping voice coaching free or low cost, it relies entirely on donations from service users, community members and allies to run. There is no expectation for service users to donate, everyone should be able to access the care they need. Each persons care costs around £300 minimum total and there are some costs which if covered could significantly improve the service. To compare this, an initial consultation with an SLT specialising in gender can cost in the region of £170, with following appointments at around £125 each, so £795 total. This service works with the aim of producing the most results possible through mutual aid and those who can pay doing so.
