'My Granny is Changing' is a children's picture book created to help families start the conversation about dementia with young children.

Dementia is a hard subject for anyone to grasp, but where do you start when you have to talk to children about dementia? This book was created to help that conversation, giving you somewhere to start. The story is about a small child dealing with the changes in her Granny due to dementia. Through the eyes of a child it weaves into the narrative universal changes that you can use to relate with children when discussing dementia.

My name is Amy and I am the creator of the book 'My Granny is Changing'.
Many years ago my Gran was diagnosed with dementia, it left myself and my family feeling lost and alone.
Through this experience I was left with a determination to help other families feel less lost and alone. The idea was born: I would create a children's picture book to help families start the conversation about dementia with their young children.

My funding usage estimate is based on raising £660 which is equivalent to 40 books being pre-ordered in the UK.
The majority of the funding costs will go to print production of the book, then postage and packing costs.

Print production costs will reduce with the amount of books that are ordered. If more than 40 books are pre-ordered the print cost will reduce and the money saved here will go towards additional elements for delivery such as post cards and stickers. If this cost can be covered, then the rest will go to covering my art material costs, and a little towards a wage for the work I have put in. If I raise enough funds I will be able to apply for an ISBN number for my book so that the book can be ordered by libraries.

I have been offering support to the Teesside Dementia Link Services through design for many years. They are an amazing charity that works directly in the community of Teesside. I will be donating £1 from each book sold to Teesside Dementia Link Services so that they can continue their amazing work.
I decided to self publish my book so that I was able to get it into the hands of families who need it as soon as possible. It also meant I could control the print quality.
I have decided to fund my book through Crowdfunder so that I could reduce the risk involved in print costs. (I did a small print run of the book prior to the launch of the Crowdfunder, so that I had books to photograph for marketing and to make sure that the print quality is awesome).
Hardback
20x20cm
32 pages
Ages 3-6 years old (but I believe picture books are wonderful for all ages).

Authored, illustrated, designed and lived.

The book has been a heartfelt project right from the beginning and I am proud to be able to offer it now on Crowdfunder.
The book is fully illustrated, finalised, and ready to print. The only risk to production is the printing costs. This is why the Crowdfunder will only be funded if I raise the full amount or more.
Love Amy
