Help me get a new independent sea-safari business off the ground

Hi, I’m Mason, and I’m working towards launching MW Sea Safari, a small independent boat-trip business operating from Scarborough.

The aim is to take small groups of passengers out from Scarborough to experience our coastline and wildlife from the sea — giving people the opportunity to see the Yorkshire coast from a completely different perspective.

I’ve found a vessel that I believe can form the basis of the business and have agreed a purchase arrangement with the owner.

The vessel costs £12,000 in total. I need to make an initial £5,000 payment to secure her and receive the keys. The remaining £7,000 will then be paid by me directly to the seller over time.

I’m trying to raise £4,000 towards the £5,000 initial payment.

I’m not relying solely on crowdfunding. I’ve already started saving towards the purchase myself, I’m putting money aside from my wages every week, and I’m taking additional work — including double-time shifts over Christmas.

My target is to have the vessel secured by New Year, giving me several months to prepare her properly before the proposed summer 2027 season.

Reaching the £4,000 crowdfunding target alongside my own savings would allow me to secure the vessel considerably sooner and begin that work.

Why MW Sea Safari?

Scarborough has an incredible coastline and maritime heritage.

My goal is to create a small local business offering memorable trips from Scarborough, allowing people to experience the Yorkshire coast, observe local wildlife responsibly and simply enjoy being out at sea.

This isn’t a huge corporate operation. It’s something I’m trying to build from the ground up.

Boats and the sea have been a huge part of my life, and my ambition is to turn that experience and passion into my own small marine business.

Where will the money go?

Funds raised through this campaign, after crowdfunding fees, will contribute towards the £5,000 initial vessel purchase payment.

I will contribute the remainder from my own savings and earnings.

Once that payment has been made, I’ll receive the keys and can begin preparing the vessel. The remaining purchase balance will continue to be my responsibility and will be paid directly by me to the seller.

If the campaign exceeds its target, additional funds will remain within the MW Sea Safari project and contribute towards the costs of preparing the vessel for commercial operation, including maintenance, appropriate safety equipment, surveys/certification, insurance and other startup costs.

No commercial passenger trips will take place until the vessel and operation have all legally required certification, insurance and approvals.

If circumstances change and the proposed vessel can no longer be purchased, supporters will be updated openly before campaign funds are used for any materially different purpose.

I’m putting my own money into this too

I’m not asking strangers to simply buy me a boat.

I’m personally saving towards the initial payment every week and taking additional shifts to increase what I can contribute.

Crowdfunding would allow people who want to support a new local Scarborough marine business to help accelerate the project.

My aim is simple:

Secure the vessel by New Year.
Spend winter and spring preparing her properly.
Work towards launching MW Sea Safari for summer 2027.
