On 24 June 2026, Venezuela experienced the deadliest natural disaster in its modern history: two powerful earthquakes struck within a minute of each other.
More than 4,500 people have lost their lives.
Tens of thousands remain missing.
Thousands of homes have been destroyed.
After years of economic and political crisis, the country's infrastructure is simply not equipped to respond to a disaster of this scale.
Yet the resilience of the Venezuelan people has been extraordinary. Parents have searched through the rubble with their bare hands. Families have shared what little food and shelter they have. Rescue workers, charities, NGOs and volunteers continue to work tirelessly to save lives.
