Aim

We are looking to Install solar panels, to reduce our carbon emissions and reduce our energy costs.

Who are we?

Mullion Golf Club is situated on the cliffs of the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall is not only the most Southerly course but one of the most beautiful courses in the West Country. Framed by sandy coves and protected reed beds, the course, now well past its centenary, has always attracted the literary giants who not only enjoyed the golf but also were fascinated by the ambience. Conan Doyle, A P Herbert, A A Milne played regularly during several visits each year.

With course improvements and modern facilities added in recent years, Mullion stands in comparison with any rival for a testing and sporting day’s golf. It celebrated it’s centenary in 1995 and in 2001 it hosted the centennial championships of the Cornwall Golf Union, having hosted the inaugural Championship in 1901.

With thriving Senior, Lady, Junior as well as Mens sections within the club, Mullion welcomes visitors and potential new members and offers them a warm and friendly welcome, and an invitation to join in with our many competitions.

Why are we crowdfunding?

We are crowdfunding to raise funds to help us install Solar Panels, we are doing this to help reduce our electric costs which have increased by approx £400 per month this year due to the energy crisis and help to reduce our carbon emissions.

Installing solar panels is beneficial for several reasons, they harness renewable energy from the sun, reducing dependence on non-renewable resources and decreasing carbon emissions. Solar panels also lead to long-term cost savings by producing electricity. Overall, they are a sustainable and economically sound choice for the environment and the club.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Funds raised via this crowdfunder will help pay for Solar Panels to be installed which will bring down our energy bills and help keep our  membership costs as low as they can and  reduce our carbon emissions.

Community impact

Playing golf offers various physical, mental, and social benefits. It provides a low-impact cardiovascular workout, improves flexibility, and enhances muscle tone. The mental aspect involves strategic thinking, concentration, and stress reduction through outdoor recreation. Socially, golf fosters relationships, as it often involves interacting with others on the course. Moreover, the outdoor setting promotes Vitamin D absorption, contributing to overall well-being.

Our Club has been part of the Community Amateur Sports Club scheme since December 2009. This scheme enables local amateur sports clubs to register with HMRC and thereby benefit from a range of reliefs.

Our Club is open to the whole community and for those in receipt of a low or modest income offers reduced membership costs.

The benefit of installing solar panels;

  •     Reduce our electricity costs - By generating our own power through solar panels, we can cut our annual electric bill by up to a third and keep our membership fees as low as possible in these current cost of living crisis times.
  •     Reduce our carbon footprint – Solar power is a source of clean energy so using it to power our building sustainably will mean we are contributing to the UK achieving its carbon reduction goals - a vital step in helping to combat climate change. Cutting our carbon footprint will also mean we’re  helping to protect wildlife habitats, communities and economies that are threatened by a warming climate.
  •     A renewable source of energy - As well as helping to combat climate change, renewable energies like solar also help to reduce air pollution, which is one of the biggest challenges we're facing globally.
  •     Easy to install – Solar panels are easily be installed on the roof, and will not impact on our local wildlife. Our Golf Club is on land owned by the National Trust and we are stewards of the land.

Our clubhouse is also used for other functions including wakes, weddings, fitness classes etc.
