Help fund Mel Collins’ Way—improving access, parking, and signage at MRFC, honouring a club legend and unlocking future growth.
Who are we?
Medway RFC is a thriving, volunteer-run rugby club founded in 1931. With over 1,600 members, we’re proud to be one of Kent’s top clubs, offering rugby to all—boys, girls, men, women, and players of all abilities. Our club is a vital community hub, helping young people grow through sport while fostering lifelong friendships and local pride.
Why are we crowdfunding?
We’re launching this crowdfunding campaign to create Mel Collins’ Way—a dedicated entrance to our club in memory of our beloved groundsman, Mel Collins. Mel was the heartbeat of MRFC, and we want to honour his legacy by improving access, visibility, and parking at our ground.
Improving our entrance is vital. Currently, we face challenges hosting games, managing traffic, and welcoming new players due to poor access and infrastructure.

How we’ll spend the money raised
We’re aiming to raise £30,000 to deliver Phase One of this essential project. Funds will be used for:
- Widening the entrance road
- Installing grass matting to ease parking issues and protect the space
- Adding signage at the entrance to Priestfields,
Every pound will help us build a safer, more welcoming space for players, officials, and supporters.
Community impact
This project will have a lasting impact far beyond rugby. Improved access will benefit:
- Over 800 active players, including the UK’s largest women and girls section
- Visiting teams, local schools, and community sports events
- Neighbours and local residents, by easing traffic congestion
- Medway’s youth, by supporting positive, structured activities in a safe environment
Better facilities = better futures. This upgrade supports health, inclusion, and pride across Medway.
