Aim

After an incurable Brain Cancer Diagnosis and big operation. Raising funds for cables, a patch-bay and other essentials for our studio

WHO ARE WE:

The Music Preservation Society was formed in 2016 by Robin Allinson to reissue classic electronic music Routh 80'd and 90's on Vinyl while paying the artists fairly. MPS have done over 120 releases (I lost count), all crowd funded and backed by or chosen by members of the Facebook Group, Private Plates

WHY ARE WE ASKING FOR HELP?
Everything was going fine until I had a six minute long seizure followed by a seven day hospital stay, a diagnosis of an incurable Glioblastoma Brain Cancer Tumour followed by a major operation to remove a massive tumour pressing on my brain. So, I can no longer go to work at the day job as I have done or the past 15 years to fund my own equipment needs, which is what this fund raiser is to help pay for as I was half way though some major changes an upgrades and need new cabling or am back to square one.

Here' a picture of the 42 Stitches after the craniotomy.I had in November 2021.1640466574_whatsapp_image_2021-11-23_at_15.18.41.jpeg

Before all this I invested in upgrading the studio sound card to a Universal Audio Apollo X 16 so we can track and record in real time through the plug ins and make remixes quickly and easily with visiting `producers. Also to make new music or just restore audio. BUT, before I could earn the money to buy the cables to connect it all up, the above happened. As I am now feeling much better in as much as I am more myself again and still wanting to continue my musical adventures in 2022 while in good health. I am asking for your help in the form of a donation toward the following expenses I can't personally cover but that are essential to carrying on. My personal life expenses are currently covered by Universal Credit and the Personal Independence Payment so this is not a cry for help with anything personal, my family are provided for while I live. This is a request to help me move forward and spend my remaining time well with some positive outcomes.

WHAT WE NEED FUNDS TO PAY FOR:

Most of our cables are far too old (23 years in some cases) and now dead or dying, Plus the type I now need I don't have. We need

  • 12 one or two meter DSUB (DB25) Cables at a cost of approx £50 each (£600) custom wired to connect a Neve 8816 Summing Mixer and Switchcraft 64 point Patch Bay.
  • To complete the connection of synths and samplers to the sound card we need an extra patch bay, mob two, These start at about £250 new up o some silly money like £1000

  • Multi-way cables and an 8 way XLR in out Breakout Patch Bay for insertion of outboard gear in the signal chain, our Tube Mic Pre for example or our B.A.S.E 3D Sound Processor
  • Multiple Midi cables for our synths
  • Instrument cables for up to 12 stereo sources or many mono ones
  • Affordable sidecar racking or a roll around rack for outboard gear
  • Servicing a vintage BB~C (EMI) Mic Pre (new rear XLR input connector, so a  cheap fix),.
  • Service and Repair of Main outs on our Vestax PMC55 DJ Mixer or a new DJ Mixer if it can't be fixed.
  • Adobe Creative Cloud Software Subscription (£50 / month, ouch) to do label art and merchandise design as well as check Label Art using Adobe Pro.
  • An official copy of Izotope RX9 Advanced Software for audio restoration (not a crack as we need to stay up to date and legal for this one as us it so much w feel it would be unfair to steal it) $799 (£500)

What We Are Doing To help ourselves?

  • Due to the investment in an upgraded sound card and nw approach to working in the box. We do have some things we can sell, so are planning on trading in some of the older equipment we don't  strictly need now against some more useful items but tbh would rather use income to get more useful add ons to the Neve like the  fader pack as it gave us 6 direct outs from the summing mixer back in to the s0und card plug ins.
  • To give people confidence that should something random happen to me or I die sooner than expected (unlikely a healthy and monitored often), the projects will still be delivered and the Artist paid. We are pre planning new and already making various vinyl releases for 2022 with the help of Above Board Distribution who will be handling our manufacturing logistics, customer care and fulfilment and all financial transactions with customers in 2022..
  • Over 2029/20 we invested over £5000 of our own money in recovering nearly all our pressing plates and mother plates from factories for Artists so we can repress them in the future and they can keep their music in print and earning them an us an income.
  • Working on content to add to our Bandcamp Subscription offer as well as some very special projects to offer later in 2022 including the ONLY recordings of DJ's and PA's at the legendary Quadrant Park events in the early days of House Music.

WHY SHOULD I SUPPORT MPS?

The Music Preservation Society has had an influence well beyond it's own interests and happily promotes other people too. We have been told we have been instrumental in the return of many original Labels and Artists to making vinyl as well as some returning to making and issuing new music again. Labels such as Ibiza Records, Out Of Romford, Kniteforce, Ramm, Production House, Ruff Guidance, Sound Entity and others are good examples.

My history doing the business see goes much further back to at least 2012 when I became Label Manager of Music of Life, managed The Criminal Minds then worked in Publishing and ended up running Impact and Whitehouse Records for Mo's Music via the TCM connection. Which led me to restore Skanna's back catalogue and off the success of that decide to form MPS as the return still made minimal sense in a world where vinyl was nearly dead. given a chance to really shine before my candle goes out that how I want to go, doing what I love a well as spending that all important time with family.

I am asking you to support MPS not me personally.

MPS was also making vinyl a a time when there industry was on it's knees and supposed new players in the market, vinyl making is now so in demand making a record takes months. We have done our bit with others to help keep the format alive and now thriving and others have followed our example to our great delight and sometimes horror..

The aims of The Music Preservation Society are not about enriching myself or cashing in on retro trends.  Th name speaks for what we o directly. ``MPS have costs based on maintaining a high standard but keep them as minimal as possible so we can pay Artists and Labels more.

MPS is about restoring and making available, seminal recordings fro the early days of Acid House nd H~ip ~Hop forward to the present.  We are using the modern digital web based platforms and tools available to anyone to connect Artists with fans of the music and reissue previously unavailable music, lovingly remastered. Leaving Artists with a resource and online presence that gives them an opportunity to earn from their own digital sales which we take no share in. All the vinyl is made and profit shared in the Artists favour without any odd deductions, all crowd funded by real world demand from fans via our Facebook group members. But now to be pre made via Distribution due to my situation and tome constraints.

It is our goal to hand over this resource to the MPS Artists and Labels when the time comes that I am no longer able to do the work or if they want to move on in future to work independently or with others.n We don't bind Artists to us and encourage them to work with other people too as we have our own niche.

Finally, if still reading this I hope we have captured your interest in the music at least and that you will check out the Facebook group, Bandcamp page and linked Artist pagesMaybe even donate something to help me achieve my aims in 2022

If you can afford to buy me a cup of coffee to help me keep doing what I love, please do, if like so many people you have hit hard times please share this around.
