On the 23rd November 2024 we'd raised £20,545 with 226 supporters in 36 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
Any money raised from our stretch target of £10K will go towards building our gallery space, which will be home to a programme of free contemporary art exhibitions, craft markets and late-night events.
Modern Painters, New Decorators was started seven years ago by artists and makers with a connection to Loughborough. We've been based in Carillon Court since 2017 where we have facilitated a free programme of workshops, exhibitions and community gatherings – alongside running artist studios and our shop.
In 2025, we will open the doors to a new public arts venue on Aumberry Gap in Loughborough, near Pinfold Gate. This new arts venue will include a public gallery, learning space, artist studios, community kitchen and resident micro-bakery (serving coffee and baked goods).
This September, work began at the 195 SQM site, which was built as part of the Luxurio Student Accommodation redevelopment, located on the ground floor and with street access via the entrance on Aumberry Gap.
We have secured a brand new premises for the next 25 years after being selected by Charnwood Borough Council and Luxurio Student Accommodation to occupy a new community facility. The building will open to the public in 2025 with a programme of free exhibitions, creative workshops, celebration events, open studios, craft markets and coffee mornings.
We have currently raised £19K to build a community kitchen and artist studios. We need to raise an additional £30K to build a gallery and learning space, and cover one-off staff and legal costs to ensure the long-term security of the space.
Our first goal is to raise £20K. This will enable us to build our new learning space for children and young people, kickstart our microbakery serving baked goods and coffee, install clear signage to help visitors find us – alongside one-off staff and legal costs to give us the best possible start in our new home.
Any money raised from our stretch target of £10K will go towards building our gallery space, which will be home to a programme of free contemporary art exhibitions, craft markets and late-night events.
Our Learning Programme needs a space for young people to explore creative ideas, expand their imaginations and build their confidence. Our Learning Room will be custom-built to facilitate our free programme of family workshops and our Art Club for young people; led in partnership with charity Love4Life and local school Limehurst Academy. We need to build the walls, set up sound-proofing, and install radiators to ensure the room is fit for purpose for young people to enjoy.
Our stretch target will mean that we can build the gallery space, and once our new site is built, it will exist as a resource for Loughborough's creative community to thrive for decades to come! Since 2017, we have hosted a free programme of exhibitions from a diverse range of artists, right here in Loughborough.
Our new exhibition space will showcase arts practices from across the UK and be used as a venue to gather and develop creatives from across the region. In addition, our eight studios will house painters, printmakers, digital and multimedia artists who live and work in Loughborough and the East Midlands. As an artist-led space, artists are at the heart of everything we do, and we will continue to gather and work with artists in new ways as we begin our exciting new programme.
Everyone benefits from space to be creative. Towns across the UK are in need of warm, safe places where people across communities can meet and gather, for free. Centring creativity creates space for our communities to dream for the future.
With the money we raise we will be able to build a site that is welcoming and full of life for the whole of Loughborough to enjoy. Our new arts venue has large windows onto the street with space to dwell, enjoy a hot drink and take time to explore all that's on offer. With a visible presence in the town, we will help put creativity on the map. We can't wait to share the space with you!
