Aim

To allow us to provide comprehensive free debt and money advice to some of the most vulnerable in our community.

Who are we, and what is our project about?

Who we are

St Paul’s Money Advice Centre (SPMAC) works in partnership with Crosslight Advice to lift people out of poverty and help them build a better future. The partnership co-delivers much needed services in a number of deprived local communities, through our branches in Hammersmith, Fulham and Shepherds Bush, supporting some of the most marginalised and vulnerable people and their families. We provide comprehensive debt & benefit advice, build financial resilience through money education and budgeting coaching, and mentor clients with open-ended holistic support to improve their mental well-being and social mobility.

With the  explosion in the cost of living - especially for those on the lowest incomes - we have seen a huge surge in client numbers. We know this number will keep growing as our clients struggle to afford rent, food and rising utilities bills.

What we do

1) Advise: We provide comprehensive debt and benefit advice, focusing on the unique circumstances of each individual. The end-to-end support we provide includes in-depth casework for the most vulnerable. We act as advocates for our clients, working at their pace and adapting to their individual needs and abilities.

2) Equip: A key part of our mission is to create lasting change so that our clients can face the future with more confidence and become better equipped to meet their full potential. We do this through one-to-one budget coaching and our 'Money Course' workshops – both face-to-face and online – to help clients understand their own finances and teach them simple financial skills, and thereby build resilience over the long-term.

3) Encourage: Our aim is to go beyond crisis advice and support clients throughout their journey. We achieve this by taking a genuinely holistic approach which includes mentoring, befriending, social-engagement and encouragement - empowering them to turn their lives around.

We have a small number of full time staff supported by over 50 volunteers.

What this project is about

Move4Change is our annual fundraising event and takes place on Saturday 12 September. It sees the local community come together to do a 10km walk along the Thames pathway from St Paul's in Hammersmith to Chiswick and back to the church for afternoon tea and entertainment and here inspiring stories from people whose lives have been touched by Crosslight’s workYou can take part by registering here: https://www.crosslightadvice.org/m4c and donate on this crowdfunding page.  You don't have to take part in Move4Change to donate to our important cause.

Why are we crowdfunding?

This funding will allow us to continue to provide free debt advice to over 500 clients a year, and to run six face to face Money Courses teaching people how to budget and manage their money.

How we’ll spend the money raised

Staff costs account for 70% of our total costs and we will use the money raised to allow us to continue to employ our staff.
