WHO ARE THE MORECAMBE COMMUNITY RISO PRESS?
We are ( will be, when we get our printer! ) a not-for-profit Risograph printing service. Based in, and supported by The Good Things Studio in Morecambe .
WE ARE SUPPORTED BY THE GOOD THINGS COLLECTIVE
The Good Things Collective are a Community Interest Company, focused on working together to inspire, promote and support the incubation and growth of community rooted initiatives with a creative, social and sustainable ethos, ensuring these are socially engaged and generating meaningful sustainable growth and change in the area.
The Morecambe Community Riso Press is one of these initiatives!
WHAT IS RISOGRAPH PRINTING ALL ABOUT?
The Risograph Printer is a stencil duplicator, developed in Japan in the 1980’s. Originally designed for large volume print runs, it looks like a photocopy machine but prints more like a screen print.
IT’S ECO FRIENDLY WITH A LOW CARBON FOOTPRINT
It is economically and environmentally friendly, it uses soy inks producing lower levels of toxic emissions and there’s no heat used to dry the ink so it is more energy efficient too.
IT PRODUCES BEAUTIFUL, UNIQUE PRINTS
The soy inks used are particular to the risograph and they produce beautifully vibrant images. Printing works best with absorbent recycled paper, producing unique prints with an off-centred aesthetic and a tactile finish.
IT’S USEFUL AND COOL AND AFFORDABLE
Risograph has become very popular with illustrators and artists in recent years. It’s an exciting tool for experimentation and trying out new print ideas as well as printing bulk orders of cards, posters, flyers and is very popular with makers of zines.
MORECAMBE IS A GREAT PLACE TO HAVE THE NEXT RISOGRAPH STUDIO!
There are a few Riso Press Studios scattered around the UK ~ Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leeds, Bradford, Manchester, Nottingham and London & the South of course - but not around these parts, and being based at Good things Studio in Morecambe would bring a boost to the local economy as well as offering a new art form to discover, and get creative with!
HOW WILL THE COMMUNITY USE THE RISOGRAPH PRINTER?
We’re hoping to buy the Riso MZ770 - which has two ink drums so prints two colours at a time on A3 & A4.
FOR ART, FLYERS, POSTERS & DIY PUBLICATIONS
With this printer we’ll be able to print & publish art editions, posters, flyers and zines.
FOR COMMUNITY ART & WELL-BEING PROJECTS
We’ll also host workshops so people can learn the art of risograph, including drawing, collage and printing, and zine making workshops with information and tips about production.
There'll be a Riso Club Membership which will provide access to the machine at a discount, DIY printing and learning together about all the possibilities. All adding to Morecambe's community wealth building & circular economy.
PLEASE SUPPORT US!
We are incredibly excited to be launching this project, please can you help get it off the ground by supporting this crowdfunder!
