All or nothing
This project needs 100% of its target
Help us move our baking into a bigger space, so the shop can have more seats, lunches, Lates and our van on the road!
Make room for more Mabel
Two and a half years of bread, cakes, coffees, catch-ups, markets, Lates and some pretty fancy awards. We’ve packed a lot into our little bakery, and now we’ve filled every inch of it.
We’re raising £36,000 to move our baking into a bigger space, make more room for you in the shop and take Mabel on the road.
A little bakery with a lot going on
We’re Dan and Lucy. We opened Mabel in March 2024, bringing together Dan’s baking in London and Copenhagen and Lucy’s background in hospitality and events. We thought we might sell 50 loaves a week, open a couple of days and get to know some regulars. We never imagined it would become this.
You’ve made Mabel part of your routines: your morning coffee, your weekend loaf, a catch-up over cake, and sometimes a dance and a glass of wine. Customers have become friends, and friendships have started across the tables.
Our Makers Markets bring more than 1,000 visitors into town at a time. Our Lates turn the bakery into somewhere to spend an evening. Together with you, we’ve supported the Swan Youth Project with fundraising, bread donations and summer food projects. And we still swap bread for veg grown by customers and local farmers.
Along the way we’ve been named in the Good Food Guide’s Top 50 Bakeries twice and won awards for Best Food & Drink Producer, Best Independent Retailer and Positive Impact in the Community. Pretty good going for a little bakery.
We’ve run out of room
Right now, we make everything in the shop, with ovens, racks, worktops and people competing for every inch.
Moving our baking into a bigger production space means room to bake more and grow our team: at least one new baker, up to four front-of-house roles and delivery drivers as we grow. And it frees up the shop for you.
More seating. A bigger lunch menu. More live music, DJs, supper clubs and workshops. Somewhere to meet your mates, bring a book or settle in for another coffee. And yes, finally, the espresso machine you’ve all been asking for. We’ve heard you!
We’ve already invested in our electric bakery van, with support from the council. With more room to bake, we can fill it with good things and take Mabel to more markets, events and pop-ups.
What your support will pay for
Our £36,000 target will help fund the work, as well as covering campaign fees and the cost of your rewards. If we reach £44,000, we can add a walk-in fridge, which means more space, more bakes and less Tetris every night.
This is all or nothing. If we don’t reach £36,000 by Sunday 6 December, nobody pays a penny and we’ll have to build much more slowly, so every pledge, share and nudge to a mate really counts.
We’re finalising the lease on the new space and will reveal the location very soon.
We’ve given it everything to get Mabel this far. We have the ambition and we’re ready to put the work in. Now we’re asking the people who want to see more Mabel to help us build the next bit.
A little checkout heads-up 🧡
When you pledge, Crowdfunder will suggest a tip towards running their platform. It’s optional and goes to them, not Mabel.
Tap “Enter custom amount”, type 0, and carry on. Your support is already more than enough
Got a skill you could share?
Electrician, carpenter, decorator, builder or plumber? If you could donate a few hours or help with one of the bigger jobs, it would make the money go further. Email [email protected] and we’ll keep you in coffee and pastries!
Something good in return
Bread, brunch, baking classes, parties, exclusive merch and workshops with some of our favourite independent businesses. Treats for you, presents for other people and chances to get behind the scenes, with more collaborations to come. Or just chip in without a reward. Every bit helps.
More bread. More lunches. More Lates. More places to find us.
More Mabel.
Lucy + Dan 🧡
