What's it all about?
'Monmouth' is a brand new play commissioned by the Marine Theatre and telling the gripping story of the Monmouth Rebellion which began on the beach in Lyme Regis in 1685. The play is being written by Lyme-born writer for stage and screen Andrew Rattenbury (Tempest of Lyme, Golden Hour, Doc Martin).
Following the huge critical success of last summer's sell-out community show 'The Tempest of Lyme' we want to put on a fantastic memorable production telling this story of Lyme's history. We want to involve up to 100 members of our local community onstage and backstge and we will welcome people of any age and ability to be involved in this amazing experience.
Here's what last year's cast members said about their experience:
'...such an amazing experience'
Katy Henderson, 14, actor in The Tempest of Lyme
'...a wonderful experience which I feel very proud to have been a part of! I have met so many lovely people through The Tempest of Lyme who I would love to keep in touch with'
Sophie Thomas, 24, Ariel in The Tempest of Lyme
'I feel that I have to speak for the other musicians who had the most wonderful experience supporting the play from a different angle...A special mention to Andrew [Dickson] who was wonderful right to the end in directing and cajoling us not only with our chosen musical instruments but with an array of percussion as well'
Wendy Knee, Musician in The Tempest of Lyme
'Everyone involved in this production gave their all and I was in awe of everyone. I wish it could have gone on longer, I really do. We should be grateful such talent exists in Lyme and its environs from the youngest of our cast to the oldest...'
David Ruffle, actor in The Tempest of Lyme
The show will be performed nightly on the 7th-9th and the 13th-15th of July 2017.
