This Christmas we would like you to help us to make a difference to those living with Dementia and their carers. Instead of buying socks that you know aren't going to be appreciated - how about give a gift that lasts?

Dementia will affect most of us as some point in our lives - 850,000 people in the UK have dementia. Multiply this by 2,3 or 4 for the number of people that are actually affected, this means friends and family members.

Dementia is the most feared illness in people over 50.

Its time to make a difference and ensure that we are all supported.

We want to make some changes in our community early in 2017. We are going to do something new , innovative and supportive.

We are in the process of bringing dementia to the high street - a place to go to get support without fear or stigma. A sustainable solution for Plymouth (a Social Enterprise City) and the wider southwest.

We are opening a Social Enterprise Cafe and Dementia Hub right in the middle of Plymouth City Centre.

Premises have been secured, leases signed and plans drawn up. The Build stage aims to start over the next few months with opening due early 2017.  We are crowdfunding to ensure that we can provide the best possible service to finish off the centre to an excellent standard, that lasts.

The concept is a working bistro/café downstairs and open to the public -  an environment for all to enjoy but thoughtfully designed to be dementia friendly. An environment that works for people with dementia works for EVERYBODY.

Anyone can pop in for a cup of tea and reminisce or just enjoy looking at timelines around the walls, sitting in one of the specially designed decade zones, each with objects on display from those eras. All the while enjoying good home cooked familiar food. Children can enjoy the historic feel of the cafe, students will enjoy the retro element and for others it may be a walk down memory lane!

The added bonus of the café - all profits will be returned to provide services to those with dementia in our community –ensuring a sustainable service that does not rely on grants and therefore will not suddenly end.  The project will need everyone’s support to ensure its success

This is not a dementia café – it’s a café which offers both a social venue to meet for coffee or lunch and a place where you can go to get information without the stigma.

The Cafe will support the services upstairs.

The Dementia Information Space will be a space for advice and support for those looking for information about dementia - this will be supported by Dementia Advisors from the Alzheimer’s Society.

The Activity Room - a place for Activity Day Clubs,  Respite and skilled support for those living with dementia staffed by Memory Matters South West CIC

Consultation and Meeting Rooms - Where local organisations and services can offer support from legal advice clinics and benefits advice to dementia screening.

The Training Room - A place to attend courses, or for visiting organisations to hold meetings.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
