Help raise money for a wildflower garden at Queens Park in memory of Moira Jones, who was tragically murdered in 2008.
The tragic murder of Moira Jones in 2008 is a poignant memory for many people in the Queens Park community, Glasgow and beyond. Hundreds of people take part in Moira’s Run each year, in memory of Moira and to raise money for The Moira Fund, set up by Beatrice and Hugh Jones, with the help of their son and friends, in the wake of their daughter’s death to provide financial support to families traumatically bereaved by the murder of a loved one.
In 2020, Bea, Hu and Moira’s brother Grant featured in a deeply moving BBC film ‘The Dark Shadow of Murder’, in which Bea shares her private journal detailing her inner anguish and turmoil in the days, weeks and months that followed Moira’s death. The enormity of the loss and devastation for the family and friends who loved and cherished Moira is impossible to comprehend. As parents, siblings, and friends to loved ones we can only imagine the pain that Moira’s family and friends endure daily.
To date The Moira Fund has helped over 1500 families nationwide. For many years, Bea led a campaign for the establishment of a dedicated homicide service in Scotland. This service was successfully established in 2019, ensuring that bereaved families receive a dedicated support worker to provide improved, streamlined support through the criminal justice system as well as the emotional support that grieving families so desperately need. The tireless efforts of Bea, Hu and Grant to help others through the darkest moments of their lives is testament to their courage, selflessness and enduring love for Moira.
Moira is forever remembered by those who knew her as a bright, talented, warm-hearted, kind and caring woman, and a generous and loyal friend. Moira's Forget-Me-Not Memorial Project aims to create a wildflower memorial in tribute to Moira, and the light that she brought to the lives of those who knew and loved her.
Moira's Forget-Me-Not Project is a volunteer-led project and is an opportunity for the Queens Park Community to help create a lasting tribute to Moira Jones. The outpouring of love and support from the community remains a source of strength and comfort for Moira’s family. It is my hope that Moira's memorial will bring comfort to the hearts of Moira's family and friends for many years to come.
