The Mohini Mohan Dhar Cancer Legacy Fund is a distinguished initiative launched to provide vital support to Macmillan Cancer Support, a renowned organization dedicated to aiding those afflicted by cancer, in tribute to the enduring memory of my esteemed great-great-grandfather, Mohini Mohan Dhar Esq. M.A.B.L., whose life was tragically cut short by oropharyngeal cancer. Mohini Mohan Dhar was a multifaceted luminary of his time, an Indian Judge, Lawyer, and the illustrious Dewan of Mayurbhanj State, serving with unparalleled distinction from June 20, 1905, to April 21, 1912. His tenure as Dewan was marked by exceptional leadership and administrative acumen, during which he held the prestigious position of First Class Judicial Magistrate, overseeing the adjudication of justice with impartiality and wisdom. Concurrently, he served as Superintendent of Education, a role in which he shaped the intellectual landscape of the region by fostering educational advancement and nurturing the minds of the next generation, including his notable tutelage of Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanj Deo during the latter’s formative years at Ravenshaw College, Cuttack.

Beyond these roles, Mohini Mohan Dhar’s influence extended to the stewardship of critical departments as Head of Revenue, Zamindari, Agriculture, and Registration, where he implemented policies that bolstered economic stability and agricultural prosperity in Mayurbhanj State. His strategic vision was instrumental in leasing the Gorumahisani mines to Tata Steel, a landmark decision that catalyzed industrial growth and laid the foundation for economic progress in the region. As Chief Advisor to Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanj Deo, he provided sage counsel, guiding the state through a period of transformation with a blend of legal expertise, administrative prowess, and an unwavering commitment to public welfare.

Every pound raised will go straight to the organization, ensuring that cancer patients and their families receive the care, resources, and hope they need to navigate their own battles—much as Mohini Mohan Dhar faced his with dignity. His life was a testament to the power of knowledge, justice, and compassion, and through this Cancer Legacy Fund, we aim to extend that testament to those in need today, honoring his fight against oropharyngeal cancer with a lasting impact on countless lives.
