A new mixer for Leeds Bread Co-op

Aim

To raise half the money toward a new mixer for Leeds Bread Co-op. All supporters will receive an exclusive enamel badge!

In December 2012 with the help of our incredible community we were able to raise £8000 for an oven, a monumental step in creating Leeds Bread Co-op. Nearly 10 years later and we need your support once more!

Our mixer has been given some seriously bad news and we have been advised that it could stop spinning any day. It’s served Leeds well over it’s 9+ years with us, and helped produce just short of a million of loaves. It would be devastating to business if we couldn't get a new one in time.

In an ideal scenario we would replace the mixer without asking for help and you wouldn’t have heard anything about it. This year has been particularly difficult for us financially, as it has been for a lot of small independent businesses. We run as a non-profit organisation and all the surplus we make is reinvested back into LBC and into our community activities, but we currently aren’t making a surplus!

It’s been a difficult decision to ask for help, especially in this economic climate - energy and running costs at the bakery have increased exponentially, as they have for every single household and business in the UK, but without some extra financial support, we don't know how we'll manage to replace the mixer.

We would really like to work with you on this crowdfunder and are hoping to raise half the funds for the mixer, which is still a huge £4000. This amount frightens the hell of us but anything you can contribute towards it will not be in vain. 

Since the pandemic we've regrouped and restructured, with a strategy to regrow sustainably and have a stronger community focus; we are currently working with some local organisations to help us develop and pilot community baking sessions, and to offer a wider range of classes and educational activities. We are committed to making the bakery a space that a variety of groups and members of the local community can use but to provide this we also need stay functioning day to day, by producing and selling lots of bread!

A great way to keep supporting aside from this crowdfunder is to pop in to our shop and visit us at markets. We all love seeing our customers, chatting, serving and seeing happy faces makes it all worth it.
