On the 12th April 2023 we'd raised £3,210 with 87 supporters in 28 days. But as every pound matters, we're continuing to collect donations from supporters.
Community Transport has been supporting the local community for over 30 years by providing a low cost transport solution. Based in Dacorum, Hertfordshire we hire minibuses to voluntary groups covering the elderly, disability, faith and youth groups to help them transport their members to a meeting place or to organised activities. We also support the wellbeing of vulnerable individuals by taking them shopping through our Door2Store service or on outings through our Day Trippers club.
The service is delivered through the support of volunteer drivers.
We have a small fleet of minibuses with tail lifts to support people with disabilities and mobility difficulties to attend essential medical appointments or social care. Minibus trips to the shops or on day's out are more than just travel, they are a way for lonely people to meet friends and gives them something to look forward to every week. Without DayTrippers and Door2Store some of our passengers would not be able to go out from week to week. Our minibuses provide a low cost (or free) lifeline to elderly residents who are otherwise trapped at home.
As well as supporting older people, our buses are used to enable children to access activities, being hired by local youth groups and schools to ferry children on trips. Without these buses many children would be unable to experience the activities they do, as our bus service provides a safe and cheap way for groups to travel.
At the beginning of March one of our minibuses was stolen from it's parking place and damaged beyond repair. The thieves set fire to the bus having stolen any items they could sell, meaning we have no bus to use for the foreseeable future. This particular minibus was used to take people living in Hemel, Kings Langley and Bovingdon shopping on a Monday & Friday morning as well as by other elderly and church groups. At the weekends it was used by community groups to take children to football matches and on activities. Whilst the insurance will replace some of the value, sadly alone the insurance will not allow us to replace this bus with a replacement that is as modern nor as well equipped, restricting the use of the bus to those who are more mobile.
By crowdfunding we hope to raise money from several supporters to help us 'build a bus for our community.
By donating 30 you could purchase a set of front wipers
By donating 85 you could purchase a mirror
By donating 100 you could purchase 1 tyre
By donating 250 you could purchase a headlight unit
By donating 1000 you could purchase a seat
By donating 3000 you could purchase a tail lift
We also have a number of rewards that you can purchase to help us reach our fundraising target. See the rewards section of this page for details.
The loss of one of our minibuses has had a huge impact on our service and our ability to support the services that rely upon us. The money raised together with the insurance claim will be used to purchase a 17 seat minibus with a tail lift. The addition of this vehicle to our fleet will mean we can continue to help our community. Without it we will have to decline requests for transport from groups and reduce our shopping and day trip services for the elderly.
We provide an essential service to support the health and wellbeing of our community. The Door2Store and Day Trippers service provides an opportunity for individuals to socialise with others, live independently and combats loneliness and isolation.
One particular church group uses the minibus once a month for a transport service to support their mission to combat loneliness and isolation amongst the community. The minibus service is more than a practical way for congregants to practice their faith, it is an opportunity to mix and mingle with friends, increasing independence for many and tackling loneliness.
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and 'build a bus' for the Hertfordshire community of Dacorum.
1. Make a pledge. Don't delay if you're going to support us because momentum is key to our success! Any amount however, small will help - you could be purchasing the steering wheel so we can turn the corner and carry on our journey of supporting our community!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. If you want to run your own fundraiser to support us, maybe a sponsored activity or similar, use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won't need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
