Aim

Migrants in Theatre is raising money to keep their movement alive in the following months.

Who are Migrants in Theatre?

Migrants in Theatre is a movement made up of first generation migrant theatre artists from a broad and diverse range of backgrounds and experiences and is open to migrant theatre makers in a multitude of roles, from actors, directors, set designers, playwrights, to stage managers, arts administrators and board members.

Migrants in Theatre is a movement initiated by theatre companies such as: Cut the Cord  Theatre, Exchange Theatre, Foreign Affairs, Global Voices Theatre, LegalAliens  Theatre, Notnow Collective, Theatre Témoin, Wretched Theatre, alongside migrant  theatre freelancers (producers, directors, performers, etc.) such as Flavia D’Avila,  Sally Beck Wippman, Zhui Ning Chang, Ailin Conant, David Furlong, Trine Garrett,  Camilla Gürtler, Tina Hofman, Nick Ishmael-Perkins, Alexandru Istudor, Bence Kalo,  Lora Krasteva, Lara Parmiani, Margot Przymierska, Nastazja Domaradzka, Christina  Tsoutsi.

What are we fighting for?

According to statistics there are 9.3 million first generation migrants living in the UK - 14% of the entire population - while in London  the percentage of foreign born migrants reaches a remarkable 37%1. However, when  it comes to their representation, visibility and support infrastructure in the theatre  industry, the presence of all these is almost nonexistent.

Migrants in Theatre was born from the clear and urgent necessity to tackle the issues affecting migrant theatre makers based in the UK. It was set  up to provide an extensive nationwide network of support for migrant theatre artists to  come together in solidarity and bring their voice in campaigning for a more inclusive  and representative theatre industry, and a rich and outward looking theatrical culture.

How are we doing that?

Migrants in Theatre are here to fight for better representation of migrant theatre artists  in Britain.

Migrants in Theatre supports first generation migrant theatre makers to to say who they are, what they can offer, and what actions they would like to  see enacted to create real structural and cultural change.

Migrants in Theatre encourages the British  theatre venues and organisations to become allies in building a more inclusive, diverse and outward  looking theatrical sector.

Migrants in Theatre advocates for a rich  and diverse theatre sector, and asks for support to a substantive transformation in participation along the lines of  inclusion called for by advocates of representation for gender, race, sexuality, and  disability.

Migrants in Theatre acknowledges and recognises that regardless of the each individual’s personal migrant experience, all migrants face some  form of xenophobia. We stand in solidarity with all members of our network.

How can you help?

To keep the movement alive in the following months, we urgently need your support. We are currently working on an application for an ACE organisational development grant, which will allow us to cover future admin costs, website development, monthly meetings, the newsletter and future events related costs.

However, applications take from 6 to 12 weeks to be processed. And until then, we need to cover these expenses from other sources. If you can help us raise £2000, we will organise 3 monthly meetings, send 6 newsletters, pay our admin and offer our continues support to over 600 fellow migrant artists currently part of our network.

Anything you can do to help us achieve our target, either by making a gift to the campaign or sharing it with your friends, family and network, will be hugely appreciated by all of us at Migrants in Theatre.
