Who are we?
Middlesbrough Roller Derby was established in Middlesbrough in 2007, making us the first roller derby league in the North East of England! We are a member of the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) and offer an inclusive space where people from all backgrounds are welcomed!
Why are we crowdfunding?
As a small, local league we are always on the lookout for new members - roller derby is brilliant exercise for you both physically and mentally, as well as being a great place to meet new people and feel part of an inclusive community! In order to keep our league thriving we need to cover the costs of our hall hire for training sessions, to invest in kit to lend to new skaters, and to introduce some additional “workshop” sessions where we can really focus on drilling down into those core skills for our newer skaters!
How we’ll spend the money raised
Money raised will go towards the monthly costs for our hall hire, and for ensuring that we are able to lend new skaters the equipment (skates and safety gear, including helmets and pads) that they need to get started! If possible, we would also like to hire some space to introduce additional “workshop style” sessions for our newer skaters - giving them a little more focussed coaching time as they learn those all important core skills!
Community impact
We aim to run “new skater intake sessions” several times a year, which are open to all members of the local community, no skating experience or equipment is needed! Roller derby is great physical exercise and we know that this can also have a positive impact upon your mental wellbeing - we are an inclusive space and are committed to tackling social isolation and promoting diversity. We also support other local charities and community groups throughout the year, whether through fundraising, volunteering or awareness raising!
How you can play your part
There are four simple ways to help us reach our target, and make this project a reality.
1. Make a pledge. Don’t delay if you’re going to support us because momentum is key to our success!
2. Spread the word. Share our project on your social media pages and tell the world to get behind us! The more people we reach, the more support we will get.
3. Offer rewards. Get involved if you are a local business by donating things we can offer to our supporters. We will give you a shout out!
4. Fundraise for us. If you want to run your own fundraiser – maybe a sponsored activity or similar – use the 'contact project' button at the top of our page to let us know. Setting up your own page only takes a few minutes and you won’t need any bank details. Just a fun idea!
