Raise Funds for Metroland's 2026 Fringe run

Areet human person! Metroland here - the five-man comedy collective from the North East, known for sweaty, sell-out shows and sketchy online videos. With the odd award-winning film thrown in.

We’re charging our comedy steeds towards the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with ‘Metroland Live: As Seen On TV’. Playing a larger venue with higher stakes comes with higher costs, with the likes of PR, marketing and accommodation taking the biscuit. So we need your help to raise our fringe budget of £6000. Think about this: your generous soul could put a roof over five heads of varying degrees of baldness, while ALSO contributing to grass roots comedy having a chance to make an impression with the arts industry key-holders.

Just like the Swing Bridge in the Tyne needs a fluid motion of hydraulic power to open and close, we need a fluid motion of hands dipping in pockets to open and close our box of comedy. But where the swing bridge cost £240,000 to build, our show ‘only’ costs £6000.

Performing at the Edinburgh Fringe is a Mecca for comedians, theatre makers, clowns, and performance artists. But unlike bingo, it’s not cheap.

Why Edinburgh Fringe?

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the pinnacle of live performance and comedy, a melting pot of creativity and talent from all over the world. This is our chance to bring our unique brand of comedy to a global audience, and with your support, we can make a splash that will echo through the comedy scene like a child crying in the Metro Centre. Sketch is going through a resurgence, with the likes of SNL UK having a big impact on the comedy scene, now is the perfect time for people to see why Metroland are worth shouting about.

Back in 2024, we took our debut show The Box to The Fringe with the help and kindness of people like you. We managed to get a sell-out run, a London transfer to the Soho Theatre, and nominated for the 2025 Chortle Awards off the back of it. Now in our second outing, we are hoping to go bigger and better by securing a national tour and building our audience and relationships even further with our sophomore show Metroland Live: As Seen On TV. We're ready to go again, but honestly the cost of this adventure is so steep that we just can't do it without your help.

What’s Metroland Live: As Seen On TV?

In an age where gathering round the television with the family – doing anything but talking to each other – is a thing of the past, this comedy group is determined to bring you a genuine shared experience of sitting and watching. Known for their 'sharply surreal writing and natural funny bones' (Chortle) and 'something The Scotsman said' (The Scotsman), Metroland invites you to an hour of programmed entertainment full of absurd, caustic characters painted with a smattering of Geordie charm. It might just be the last episode of television ever- and it's definitely, definitely not a simulation.

The Road to Fringe: Our Budget

To conquer this quest, we need to raise £6000. Here’s a breakdown of our costs:

Accommodation: Ensuring our team has a place to stay and protect the outside world from our whiffy bums.

Food: Big boys need lots of beans. Think of us as a five bean salad. Jack J's a kidney bean. Please don't make us sell him.

Tech: From lighting to sound, we want to pay the best team what they are worth  to make our show shine.

Travel: Getting our team and gear to Edinburgh.

PR: We want people to know the Geordies are in town and to come see our show.

Costumes and Props: Bringing our sketches to life with the right look and feel. We want to capitalise on a sell out run with a bigger and better show, we'd like to leave the audience thinking "Where'd they get that massive sausage roll from?"

Our Funding Tiers

We have set three funding targets to help us reach our goal in stages:

£6000: This will cover our accommodation and travel.

£10,000: This will ensure we can launch a full-scale PR campaign, which is a MASSIVE boost to our exposure at the festival and gets 'As Seen On TV' the attention it deserves. Plus accommodation and travel.

£13,000: This will do all of the above and help towards production costs like set and props. Might even give everyone enough for their weekly scran expenses. Unfortunately you can't eat comedy, but we hope to be drinking in plenty of laughter.
