Metamorphoses is a radical reimagining of Ovid’s classic poem from the 1st century. Mixing pop culture junk with staunch classicism, Metamorphoses rips apart and remixes these primal stories to explore the transformations that are taking place in our conceptions of gender, sexuality and power in contemporary society and give Trans+ people power back over their own narratives and mythology.

Our story begins at a London Trans Pride after party in Summer 2022 when the initial idea of the project was pitched in the basement of The Glory (now The Divine). Filled with the revolutionary fervour of the day, writer JimmyJ waxed lyrical to producer Bobby about an adaptation of the Greco-Roman classic that did justice to the trans narratives and themes at the core of the text and explored the at turns; deeply beautiful, abjectly horrific and uncannily prescient nature of these stories. Metamorphoses was born.

After an incredible series of workshops, rehearsals and sharings that made up a month long Research and Development process in April 2023, Metamorphoses is ready to present an explosion of raw, queer, classic energy for a 3 week run at The Cockpit Theatre this coming May/June.
