Hi Merfolk! Welcome to the crowdfunder for the first and annual Margate Mermaid Parade aka MERGATE.
Did you know that Dreamland here in Margate was inspired by the Dreamland of Coney Island, Brooklyn where they’ve had a Mermaid Parade since 1983?
The purpose of MERGATE is to bring the Margate communities together. Those who have recently moved here and those who have been here for generations. We all share the sea, so let’s celebrate it and preserve it!
Each year we will nominate an organisation (or two!) who protect our beaches to receive the money collected for MERGATE.
We will start the day in a central Margate location and parade up the prom to the Oval Bandstand in Cliftonville where we will have a full day of activities, speakers, traders, food, drink & music.
This crowdfunder is to raise initial costs for the day, and begin our collection for our two nominated organisations for 2023: Rise Up Clean Up, and HM Coastguard Margate rescue team.
RISE UP CLEAN UP is a community-driven social initiative with a mission to clean up Margate's beaches and protect the local coastline, ocean, and native wildlife.
HM COASTGUARD MARGATE is a local Coastguard rescue team helping to protect the public in and around the Isle of Thanet.
These two outstanding organisations are looking after us, so let's look after them!
