Our project aim is to challenge the stigma around Men's Mental Health and Homelessness, Through talking circles and homeless outreach.
Nearly 75% of all suicide victims are male and a whopping 87% of rough sleepers are also male.
Men are nearly three times as likely as women to become dependent on alcohol and three times as likely to report frequent drug use.
This is the reason mandem meetup was founded.
Along with our weekly homeless outreach programme, we provide men with a safe space to talk, with no judgement, expectations or repercussions, this all happens in one of our weekly sharing circles, one of them just down the road from here.
We understand how important exercise can be for the mind and the body, so we also provide exercise classes, we take the men out on day trips, hiking mountains, swimming in lakes and soaking up the scenery.
All our activities are free to the service user and any man is welcome here.
At Mandem Meetup We work with men who have mental health issues or are at risk of having mental health issues. We provide a number of activities which are about connecting men together, giving each other mutual support and providing social activities to reduce isolation. Free of charge to anyone in our community.
“Right now, many of us are aware of the cost-of-living crisis and how that is affecting others around us. I know that I have been very fortunate in my life, and it is frightening to see at any time but particularly in the run up to Christmas people forced to be homeless. Many of those in this position also struggle with mental health issues, I recognise how I struggle and have struggled to articulate my feelings when times have been hard. It is for these reasons that I’ll be spending 24 hours on the streets of Manchester joining the homeless and those struggling with day-to-day life to really see the harsh realities people have to face. .”
Garry Buick Chief Admin Officer and Business Efficiency Director of BPP, who will complete a 24-hour homeless sleepout on the streets of Manchester City Centre alongside Mandem Meetup.
We have been delivering services to Men and the Homeless of Manchester as volunteers and rely on donations from generous people around the country to continue to do what we do for free.
We’re trying to raise funds so that we can continue to provide free spaces for men to open up. The money we raise will go towards venue hire, refreshments, facilitator fees, marketing, and operations costs.
There will be some overspill that’ll go towards helping the homeless with things like sleeping bags, toiletries, underwear and we’re currently considering buying mobile chip and pin readers so anyone on the streets can have monies paid to them even in an ever growing cashless society.
Please donate what you can and please share so that we can spread the word of Mandem far and wide.
Come as you are men, you’re welcome here.
