Below the top of Britain's most popular mountain, Snowdon,  a notorious stretch of path needs repair. But we can't do it without your help.

The top of the Watkin Path is notorious among climbers of Wales’ highest mountain.

This section of path has come up consistently in surveys where we ask people what they think needs improving within the national park. We want people to come to Snowdonia and be so inspired by their experience that they develop a lifelong love of hill walking and come back again and again.

The problem

Cutting across an unstable scree slope right below the summit of Snowdon / Yr Wyddfa, the correct route is hard to make out and walkers often end up wandering off course on to treacherous or difficult ground. In turn this has meant this section of path has experienced significant erosion and braiding.

The solution

With the funding raised here we aim to better define this section of path by creating a sensitively designed stone-pitched path with a sidewall alongside.

Without these improvements it will be almost impossible for us to encourage those purely heading to the summit to stay on the route to protect the surrounding habitat from further impact of erosion and damage. 

The scale of the task is huge due to the location of the section and the extent of work required. Both the National Trust and the Snowdonia National Park will be putting some funding towards the work but without hitting our £10,000 target in this campaign it will never be enough to get the job done.

This campaign will give us the opportunity to work with the National Trust through the Snowdon Partnership to repair this iconic path. Please give generously and help us do this.

Please note that should the required target not be met to deliver this project, any monies raised may be rolled over to other projects within the Mend Our Mountains campaign.

Mae rhan uchaf Llwybr Watkin yn ddrwg enwog ymhlith dringwyr mynydd uchaf Cymru. Drwy dorri ar draws llethr o sgrî ansefydlog yn union o dan gopa’r Wyddfa, mae’n anodd gweld y llwybr cywir ac mae cerddwyr yn aml iawn wedi cael eu hunain yn crwydro oddi ar gwrs y llwybr. Yn ei dro mae hyn wedi golygu fod y rhan yma o'r llwybr wedi erydu a datgymalu’n sylweddol.

Oherwydd y lleoliad a’r gwaith sylweddol sydd angen ei gyflawni, mae maint y dasg yn enfawr. Bydd angen i ni rannu’r prosiect yn ddau neu dri cham, yn ddibynnol ar yr arian fydd ar gael. Cost y cam cyntaf yn unig fydd £ 70,000. Bydd yr Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol ac Awdurdod Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri yn cyfrannu rhywfaint o arian tuag at y gwaith, ond heb gefnogaeth  yr ymgyrch ‘Adfer Ein Mynyddoedd’, ni fydd yn ddigon i gyflawni’r gwaith.

Gyda'r arian a godir, ein nod yw diffinio’r rhan hwn o’r llwybr yn well gan greu llwybr wedi ei bitsho â charreg a’i ddylunio’n sensitif, gyda wal yn rhedeg ar ei hyd. Heb y gwelliannau hyn, fe fyddai hi bron yn amhosib i ni annog y rheiny sy’n anelu am y copa  i aros ar y llwybr gan warchod y cynefinoedd cyfagos rhag effaith difrod ac erydiad pellach.

Mae rhan uchaf  Llwybr Watkin wedi codi’n gyson fel pwnc mewn arolygon lle gofynwyd i bobl eu barn am yr hyn oedd angen ei wella o fewn y Parc Cenedlaethol. Rydym am i bobl ddod i Eryri a chael eu hysbrydoli gymaint gan eu profiad fel eu bod yn datblygu cariad gydol oes tuag at gerdded mynydd a dychwelyd dro ar ôl tro. Mae ymgyrch 'Adfer Ein Mynyddoedd' yn rhoi cyfle i ni, drwy Bartneriaeth yr Wyddfa i weithio gyda’r Ymddiriedolaeth Genedlaethol, i adfer y llwybr eiconig hwn. Rhowch gymorth i ni drwy roi yn hael os gwelwch yn dda.
