To have social days for Walkers, to help promote the group, Walkers to be Mental Health First Aid trained and to have more MWAT groups.
My name is James and I am the Walk Leader for Men Walking and Talking Ely.
We want to raise £150 to support Men with there Mental Health.
We are part of a nationwide organisation called Men Walking and Talking, with over 90 groups nationwide.
Men Walking and Talking Ely was established on 15th July 2025 and was the first MWAT group in East England, after James was inspired by a youtube video of a BBC feature on Men Walking and Talking.
When Ely was set up there was 45 groups nationwide, fast forward 12 months later, there is 90+ groups.
This just shows the need and demand for Men to be part of our ever increasing community.
Since last year I was responsible for setting up Cambridge and Bury St Edmunds Men Walking and Talking groups and soon to be Kingfisher Bridge Nature Reserve MWAT in October 2026
Just setting up one group does cost money unfortunately, the cost of enrolling new Walk Leaders in Mental Health First Aid Training is costly, but essential in providing a competent individual to run a group.
The cost of promoting groups is substainual with printing costs and the different forms of promotion we carry out.
My mission certainly within East Anglia would be for more groups to be established.
We want to provide support and give the opportunity for as many Men 18+ as possible to open up about there Mental Health, socialise and support each other, which is so important in tackling a range of problems that Men face everyday e.g loneliness and social isolation etc.
We would like to have the funds to provide social experiences for walkers, such as days out as a group/s to further provide opportunity for support and brotherhood.
On Sunday 20th September myself and members of the Ely group will be Walking 17.9 miles around Hunstanton Norfolk starting and finishing in Holme Next the Sea known as End of the Peddars Way – Hunstanton Striped Cliffs loop from Holme next the Sea.
