Thank you to everyone who has contributed to Memory Path; it has been such a confidence boost for me and I really appreciate it. The stretch target kicks in once the initial target has been met and will enable me to be paid for my time too. I am enjoying working on the final mixes and looking forward to sharing these with you soon. Please forward on to anyone who might be interested in the music. Thanks again Quee
Memory Path?
Last year, I got interested in the idea of writing a new piece of music based on a walked journey through a remote landscape. I invited fiddler, Charlie Grey and Joseph Peach (accordion and keys player) to walk with me from Lochinver to Clachtoll in Assynt.
I'd had a great time working with Charlie and Joseph on an outdoor performance and we set out in April, making notes and taking photos along the way.
Recording - We returned to my recording studio in Fife and created a map of what we'd experienced. I played bass and bouzouki and we used the map as the basis for improvisations. When we listened back to our recordings, various sections really stood out and evoked the experiences we'd shared. We developed these sections further, inviting percussionist, Dave Martin to join us for some more days of improvisation.
Sounds cool. Then what happened?
With a gig planned for March (guess what's coming....), we all returned to our different projects. And then lockdown happened.
After a pause, we figured out how we could work remotely and have been continuing to develop the tunes.
All in all, it's been a great journey and we really want to release this EP as a digital download.
New release - We're looking to raise money to be able to complete the recordings, master the whole album and have artwork created by Jen Frankwell so it looks as good as it sounds.
We'd love to play the music live one day.
Until then, we're keen to share Memory Path with you all.
