To fund a memorial plaque at the West Rd Crematorium in memory of Hughie Gallacher.
Hughie Gallacher was arguably Newcastle United's greatest ever player, with a remarkable record of 143 goals in 174 appearances between 1925-30 (0.82 goals per game, the most prolific ever). He was Newcastle United captain the last time the club won the League Championship in 1927.
His goalscoring record was phenomenal throughout his career, including his time at Queen of the South, Airdrieonians, Chelsea & Derby County. He scored 24 goals in only 20 appearances for Scotland, and was one of the Wembley Wizards of 1928.
There is not so much as a headstone, statue or plaque in memory of Hughie Gallacher anywhere in Scotland or England to commemorate this magnificent player who sadly died in tragic circumstances in 1957.
The aim of this fundraising project is to fund a memorial plaque at the West Road Crematorium in Newcastle upon Tyne (where Hughie was cremated) with an initial lease period of ten years.
If the target amount is surpassed, any extra funds will be donated to mental health charities that focus on the prevention of suicide (If U Care Share & Changing The Game UK).
