Aim

Raising funds to purchase a small kiln for project use

Hello generous souls! My name is Saffa and I'm an illustrator, educator and printmaker originally from Pakistan, but based in Glasgow, Scotland. I've been running my ceramic practice under the project, Memento Matter, for the past 7 years where I explore creating vessels for daily rituals using foraged materials; clay, slips, glazes, foliage and create original pieces that function as spaces for personal collections of trinkets, tales and treasures.

To keep myself sustained as a creative practitioners, I work as a print technician, workshop facilitator, freelance illustrator and also recently, as a professional cat groomer. My clay practice is a form of therapy that I choose not to monetise on excessively as it gives me space to learn, experiment and create on my own terms, at my own pace, without any pressures to justify my time that goes into this form of labour of love.

I find it vital as a creative practitioner to have a project and a medium where I can have full autonomy and space to explore forms and making. I'm an avid naturalist and aspiring ecologist and all of my special interests; appreciation for natural history, foraging, activism, community strengthening and connecting with others are connected to clay and printmaking.

As someone who's constantly invigorated by tangible, process induced making, I'm realising how beneficial it would be for me to be able to have access to own small kiln. So I'm raising funds for the first time ever to fund an extremely useful piece of equipment that will further encourage and inspire me to continue to do what I really love and keeps me grounded. It would also allow me to host clay based workshops and collaborations with other creative practitioners where I can fire works more efficiently and promptly whilst creating space for mutual learning.

Thank you so much for stopping by and supporting my work and seeing value in what I do, it means more to me than you'll ever know.

You can find my work here.

Sending you all the love and warmth,

Saffa
