MEDAPTI (round 1)

Aim

MEDAPTI - adapter for oral syringes that will make giving medicine to babies, premature babies, ill, disabled and elderly safer and easier.

My name is Dora and I am an inventor of MEDAPTI - an adapter for oral syringes that will make giving medicine safer and easier. I really believe MEDAPTI could change the way we administer medication! Since the launch of the crowdfunding campaign, there has been an incredible interest in my product concept. There were articles about it in The Sun, the Mirror and second best selling newspaper in Poland! Everyone loves it!

Here is a short story of how I came up with the idea of MEDAPTI....

I am a mum of two boys and with my first baby, I was always afraid that I would hurt his gums using the hard plastic syringe. My second baby simply refused to take medication. I found 15 types of medicine dispensers: soft syringes, dummy dispensers, syringe bottles and many more but none of them were good enough. Some were too messy, some too difficult to use, some not suitable for babies that don't take dummies or bottles, some simply ineffective. I could not stop thinking: "There has to be a safer and easier way!"

Numerous sketches, paper models, play-doh models...

And I had my simple solution - MEDAPTI.

• MEDAPTI dispenses medicine to the cheek, the safest way as it prevents from choking.
• MEDAPTI is soft, protecting mouth and gums.
• MEDAPTI is simple and mess free.
• MEDAPTI gives you more control, safely positioning the syringe in the right place.
• You only need one hand to dispense medicine with MEDAPTI.

I have UK, USA and European patents pending, UK design registration. I had numerous 3D print prototypes made. It has been just over three years since I first thought of MEDAPTI and what an exciting journey it was! Learning about patents, design, manufacturing and so many other things!

Last year, I received Innovation Vouchers which I used to produce my first 10 'hand-made' samples and I am now ready for the next step. With the money from crowdfunding, I will be able to pay for the tooling and produce the first batch of MEDAPTI. This would be a huge step for me which would enable me to try and enter the market.

Giving medicine to babies safely and effectively is a worry and struggle to a lot of parents and carers. All mums and dads love MEDAPTI when I showed it to them. I also spoke to numerous health professionals and received very positive feedback. Here are just some of the great comments:

I am confident that MEDAPTI will become not only a must-have baby care product in childcare market but also a tool in healthcare market, making giving medicine to babies, premature babies, ill, disabled and elderly safer and easier. One of my dreams is to get involved in supproting Great Ormond Street Hospital by either donating my product to them or giving away a % of the profits from every sale.
