Aim: Alison will volunteer this summer at Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Local social entrepreneur has accepted a key role in Medals Ceremonies.

Alison Schofield a local lass Halifax born and bred who lives with complex disabilities, driven by Paralympic spirit and the passion from London 2012 that despite her limitations she will make the most of opportunities that come along in her life.

Alison applied and secured a volunteer position at this summers Birmingham Commonwealth Games in the Medal Ceremonies Presentation Team.

The success of the Queens 70 Jubilee celebrations will make the games more spectacular than ever.

Athletes from the Queens Commonwealth countries will come together in Birmingham to compete in both able-bodied and para- sport events.

Amongst the Para-sports been included for the first time are 3 x 3 Wheelchaìr Basketball and T34 Wheelchair Racing with Hannah Cockroft MBE hoping to obtain the elusive Commonwealth medal, missing from a successful golden career.

Alison plays proudly in her blue and white shirt for local team Calderdale Wheelchair Basketball.

Her determination to represent Halifax Calderdale and Yorkshire at presenting medals to successful commonwealth athletes would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Due to Alison’s complex disabilities she has a social services funded care team. This summers opportunity costs more than the care budget allows so to ensure that Alison can make the most of this opportunity she needs to raise approximately £1500 to fund her care team.

The care team is essential to ensure she can access places, get dressed, access nutrition, personal care and travel opportunities safely in her powered wheelchair.

Alison spends her time as volunteer director of Disability Roadmap CIC.
