At Mealbank108, we aim to provide a welcoming place of safety and a hot meal for those who find themselves in times of hardship every week.
At Mealbank108, we have provided a welcoming place of safety and a hot meal for those who find themselves in times of hardship for almost 8 years. We welcome anyone to come and talk and be listened to, without judgement, whether they are facing financial hardship, health issues or struggling with loneliness or mental health issues. Each week we serve up to 50 hot home-made meals to people in our community and aim to address social inequalities and health inequalities. We have a team of volunteers, around 30 of us, on a rota system from cooks, dishwashers to servers and ‘chatters’. We currently rely solely on donations and our vision is to ensure this project is sustained for many years to come.
Each week, we see people who live without the most basic of needs being met. People who have no home and struggle with addictions and poor mental health. We are there to offer guidance and support and connect with other charities and services in the community to ensure these people are accessing everything they can. For some of our guests, they may not see or talk to anyone that day, or even that week, so they come along for connection to others and a good healthy meal is a bonus. We aim to help people on their journey, hopeful that they can find a way out of their struggles and many come back to us to share their lives once they are on track. We even have guests who now volunteer for us, giving back to the very place that helped them back on their feet.
Any funding we manage to raise, will go directly to providing food, a warm environment and support to those who visit us each week. We are not looking for a ‘new project’ just to continue to provide this vital lifeline to many in our community who rely on that Monday night get together to get them by.
